Yes that scene with Gimli is amazing...:P And yes the books are very much different from the film, but that is to be expected. :)

Legolas and Thranduil gets some more lore love in this and we learn why the dwarfs and elves hate each other so very much. :). We get to see the ring corrupt Bilbo and Gandalf's character evolve from a wizard to the warden we felt in love with in LOTR. Personally i am a big fan of the series...
