    Al-Khalid 2

The only nation crazy enough to think they can "win" in a nuclear war is China.. .and that was under Mao, probably not so now. At best, limited scope conventional wars are in the books for India/Pakistan in the future that will reach ceasefire before any one side gets a decisive advantage.

MiG 35 : Not be underestimated

I think the Russians will win. The terms of the MRCA are ridiculous - last I read India wants 50% industrial offset which most competitors simply can not do - mainly because their domestic defence industry is in desperate need of tech transfers after one debacle after another. The French...

    Pakistan's Mirage 2000 Saga

I would avoid French anything at this point. They are very desperate to get anyone to buy the Rafale and no one is biting... you buy French anything and they are going to nickel and dime you to death over the life of the aircraft to subsidize the Rafale's development. Plus the government...

    F-18 of IAF

I don't think the F-18 would change much unless, unless we are talking about EA-18Gs. But the Su-30MKI is already a bigger problem. The Rafale, that's a trickier question since the capabilities of the SPECTRA defensive suite are still a question mark. Simulations done by various think tanks...

MiG 35 : Not be underestimated

i would think if you have to turn completely around to fire a missile at someone they've already fired one at you. i think the Israeli Python V can be fired backwards with lock after launch, so that would probably be more practical.

Joint development of 5-generation fighter by Pakistan and China?

My understanding (and I could be totally wrong, I'm sure one of the many Pakistanis on this forum could shed more light) is that the entire tribal area more or less supports the militants... You can not defeat a determined insurgency. You can win many battles, but ultimately the only way to...

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 2]

I think it was really an engine design problem that the Russians overlooked to keep costs down. I am no engine expert, but I can't imagine any reason why a smoke-free combustion chamber would in any way hurt performance. The Mig-35 program addressed 2 of the biggest complaints about the...

Boeing Unveils New Stealthy F-15 (F-15SE)

i like the concept from an upgrade (not brand new) point of view and the plane does look sexy. but that is like trying to make the su-30mki stealthy. it would be easier to convince israel to withdraw to the Green Line :P

    JF-17X- A Pakistani Stealth Fighter

uh yeah take one look at the shape of the JF-17. you can not take that article seriously. they would be better off starting from scratch. and the other upgrades talked about - apg-79 goes for $3.5 million new. a helmet mounted sight and a slightly better engine (how much could that possibly...

PA TANKS comparison with contempory tanks

Here's a fun fact: The US defence budget is 150 times larger than Pakistan's defence budget. So it's nice that the most lavishly equipped army in the world with the largest logistical trains can afford to build extremely heavy tanks and afford to have them collapse bridges (like in Al...

PA TANKS comparison with contempory tanks

Sure, that's possible. But I think it's rather impractical. The Abrams is actually even too heavy for most European bridges and during the Cold War key bridges were reinforced specifically to handle the load of the heavier Abrams versions. If you can't use any of the existing bridges but have...

For Indian war planners, is the PAF their worst fear?

I sort of agree. India really looks like they bit off more than they can chew. If you look at China's progression to closing the technological gap, they've been taking baby steps most of the way and have still encountered many bumps on the way. They're still at least a decade behind the West...

An Indian perception about new arms for Pakistan Navy

these sales help smooth cooperation on afghanistan, obviously. the article seems to be wildly off the mark.

Pentagon says Chinese vessels harassed U.S. ship

if the US is going to claim airspace many times beyond what is recognized under international law and threaten to shoot down any plane violating that airspace, they should expect things like this to happen. they don't recognize "international boundaries" but expect other nations to when it...

    Russian-Chinese Su-33 fighter deal collapses - paper

even if it falls through, i'm sure china can modify an existing design to make it carrier capable. although it might lack significantly in areas that specialized naval fighters might, China is only looking for a short-term stop-gap anyways. the trainers would only be a partial loss.. they...

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 2]

I always thought the idea was for Pakistan to upgrade them continuously, so a slower procurement rate is more cost effective over the long haul. I'm guessing a slower procurement will result in a slower phasing out of older models the JF-17 is intended to replace, but that shouldn't be a huge...

PA TANKS comparison with contempory tanks

Well nobody officially releases protection data but it is telling that Rheinmetall cancelled their 140mm gun project on the basis that the 120mm L55 was sufficiently strong (with the proper ammunition) to deal with all modern threats. They at the very least would likely have access to the...

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 2]

The maintenance crews are probably going to be the bigger bottleneck, I would imagine, than number of pilots. In WW2 you could return to base with a shot up plane and shot up pilot (from machine gun fire or shrapnel - if a pilot gets hit by cannon fire he's probably not returning to base) and...

Joint development of 5-generation fighter by Pakistan and China?

I can't say how much technically India or Pakistan can help Russia or China with regards to development, but any joint development does offer two advantages for Russia/China - additional funding and political brownie points. As mentioned before, I'm sure Russia would love to completely lock...

Does the PA need more troops to fight terror?

Fair points, though I'm of the opinion that you can not defeat a dedicate insurgency through purely military means. More troops or better troops can give you a better bargaining positioning for the eventual political solution though. And I was under the impression the thought process here...
