    Sheer Disappointment

Here is a pretty comprehensive video I saw yesterday on the cars' development. Some sober analysis inside.

Ariane 6 too conventional to compete with SpaceX?

A comment on this point. Back in 2011, NASA did a NAFCOM analysis on the Falcon9 project, to both validate the development costs that F9 v1.0 had incurred and also to theorize on what the costs would have been, if NASA had gone forward with a standard cost-plus government project for the LV...

Ukrainian EW Radar Helped Israel Destroy Iranian Pantsir Air Defence In Syria

No idea about the story being true or not. I did notice this though and posted it up-thread. It was posted on PDF back when it happened too. https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/israel-received-kolchuga-m-passive-radar-system-from-ukraine.594525/

What Chinese Sub-Systems are needed for the JF-17 to match the F-16 Block 70?

    Thanks for the info. Using public sources and approximates, here is what I get for F-16 AIM-9X Weight = 188 lbs AIM-120D Weight = 350 lbs 2 AIM-9X + 2 AIM120D = 1076 lbs Empty Weight of F-16 blck50 (not 70/72) = 18,900 lb Total Internal fuel = 7,000 lb Weight with 100% internal fuel and...

What Chinese Sub-Systems are needed for the JF-17 to match the F-16 Block 70?

How? I mean, what exact info are you depending on here? I was under the impression that there are lot of things that we currently don't know about the platform. Take T/W for example. Do we know the engine thrust and overall weight characteristics of block 3?

NATO Signs Accession Protocol With Macedonia

This is a great development for both North Macedonia and the region. Really hoped this happened at least a decade earlier (but stubborn politics in Athens and Skopje prevented that).

What Chinese Sub-Systems are needed for the JF-17 to match the F-16 Block 70?

Agreed, but you were speaking about getting close and/or merging. This is far, FAR inside the 75% kill envelope for a C-8 AMRAAM (for example). And still far enough that the radar-missile combo pays a lot of importance.

What Chinese Sub-Systems are needed for the JF-17 to match the F-16 Block 70?

House cooling or/and a larger aperture? We simply don't know right now. Not in BVR. You are talking about ACM scenarios.

What Chinese Sub-Systems are needed for the JF-17 to match the F-16 Block 70?

First of all I didn't make a statement (I am very careful with my words, re-read the "would probably" part). But for justification, I already wrote it in the post. The theoretical performance of an AESA radar is throttled by two things. The amount of power that the aircraft can send to the...

Turkey vs China - Army/Military Power Comparison 2018

I never understood the concept of videos like the above. Is it a fast infomercial showing some wikipedia stats from random countries? Is it supposed to provide a meaningful comparison (but fails in the process)? I don't get it. It is far more educating and entertaining to watch someone like...

What Chinese Sub-Systems are needed for the JF-17 to match the F-16 Block 70?

Yeah, the combination of SABR and C-5-->C-8 AMRAAM is pretty much lethal in a clean BVR environment scenario. Even something like the KLJ-7 and SD-10 combo would probably be no match for it (for objective reasons, having mainly to do with the radar - smaller radome to fit, less power available...

What Chinese Sub-Systems are needed for the JF-17 to match the F-16 Block 70?

A more apt comparison would be between the F-16A and the F-20 Tigershark. Back in the late 70's, the Carter Admin wanted to push this for the export market at aprox. half the cost, instead of sending F-16s over. This is rather close to the story of the JF-17, which is destined to become the PAF...

Arianespace preps for first of up to 13 launches in French Guiana this year

And...everything went well. Here is the launch video. Ariane 5 always darts away like a bat from hell in those launches, due to the very large TWR it enjoys. And an article on the launch campaign. Arianespace launches Indian, Saudi telecom satellites in year’s first Ariane 5 mission by Caleb...

Industry bids are in for Finland’s $13 billion fighter race

Agreed. After all, the term "Finlandization" came to be exactly because of the need for a country - that has a major policy actor neighboring it - to survive. Having said that, the Finnish do historically take their sovereignty and military pretty seriously. Same goes for the public funds that...

Senate environment panel okays Trump's pick to lead EPA

I actually have 13 relatives in the US, currently residing in Seattle and New York. Also have lived there for a couple of years, back in the early 00's. With regards to heavy metal contamination, my interest started years ago, when I was first reading about the Hanford Site, and the Kingston...

Ukrainian EW Radar Helped Israel Destroy Iranian Pantsir Air Defence In Syria

Have in mind that the article simply lists the max range of the system. This seems fairly credible, since it is essentially regurgitating verbatim the globalsecurity.org database entry for the system. Moreover, we do know that the Israelis procured some of those trucks this winter. The article...
