People of West Bengal - please rise up and take on the Indian state

There is plenty of IQ in Bangladesh as well, if not more, just that we need to keep religious parties in check and then things will flourish. There are plenty of highly intelligent Bangladeshis who have done great things on the global stage e.g. Sal Khan, Fazlur Khan, Jawed Karim, to name a few.

People of West Bengal - please rise up and take on the Indian state

You will notice the anger on his face when he says WB is not a priority for India. You get the impression he wants WB and Bangladesh to be one, and if not, at least WB to be a sovereign state so WB and Bangladesh could work together. By the way, to hell with Assam and Tripura. Those are not...

People of West Bengal - please rise up and take on the Indian state

You don't have to merge with Bangladesh but at least fight for a sovereign state. I am damn angry at Hindu Bengalis for being so timid. I am not sure if you Bengalis know Anurag Danda, the head of WWF India, he wants West Bengal to be a sovereign state. Why aren't there more people like him?

Bangladesh bid for closer ties with China irks India

I would be wary of building very close ties with China. All trade with them should be done via sea and air cargo, not build a connected road between the two countries. It's madness on the part of Bangladesh this.

Ten Reasons Why Nepal Should Join India

Can you really tell the difference between someone from West Bengal and Bangladesh always, or is it more to do with accent, mannerism?

    Bangladesh is way too Dhaka-centric

It's better people stay in their own cities unless they have to move. I still think its important Dhaka still retains some of the favoured-city status because one great city can make a great difference to the image of a whole country. Mumbai I think is a good example. But I can understand the...

    Bangladesh is way too Dhaka-centric

My mistake, I thought it was a recent piece. In terms of changes over the last 8 years or so, so has Bangladesh, particularly Dhaka. My argument about Dhaka is still true. In Sylhet a lot of the progress has been people-led, rather than heavily government-assisted. I have to agree with you...

    Bangladesh is way too Dhaka-centric

Even this Indian visitor managed to form this impression during his short stay in the country, something us Bangladeshis know all to well. Dhaka receives excessively high central government funding. You can understand them receiving higher share than others as it's the capital, and the city most...

    Modi-fying Bangladesh-India relations

I would be ever so glad if he did build the fence, it will save us the cost. Bangladeshis have long been wanting to build a fence on the border with Northeast India.

A Tale Of Two Bengals Where Never The Twain Shall Meet

Oriental people may be light skinned but are just not attractive (in my opinion), South Asians with darker skin are better looking. But as I say, I don't have a problem with people coming for work, study as long as you can keep tabs on who is coming and going. At the moment Bangladesh might not...

A Tale Of Two Bengals Where Never The Twain Shall Meet

That's none of my business. It's his life so he can do as he pleases. A few Oriental people living and working in Bangladesh won't hurt. There are international schools in Dhaka where you will find students with origins from all parts of the world. I don't have a problem with that. If anything...

A Tale Of Two Bengals Where Never The Twain Shall Meet

I Don't believe in annexing WB. They are developing their place so why should we Bangladeshis reap the benefits of their hard work. We should focus on developing our own country. Without a doubt, we have separated for good. Another point to make, because West Bengal is part of India, they cannot...

What would be Narendra Modi's policy for Bangladesh?

Not all Bangladeshis are converted Muslims. What happened to the Afghans who settled in Bangladesh between the 12th Century and mid 1700s? Didn't they marry local women? Of course some Bangladeshi Muslims will have Afghan blood in them, whether you like it or not. In Bangladesh (erstwhile East...

A Tale Of Two Bengals Where Never The Twain Shall Meet

During Muslim rule the Hindus generally would have been been outside the main economic system. They would have been highly discriminated towards and most likely lived in great fear. There are plenty of accounts of this. The Mughals would have mainly traded with other Muslim regions (but also...

A Tale Of Two Bengals Where Never The Twain Shall Meet

What the heck you talking about? East Bengal had always been a Muslim dominant area of Bengal. But when the British came in the 1750s they destroyed the Muslim industries and transferred some of the control to Hindus, who the British saw as meek and less likely to challenge the British...

    Bangladesh-Pakistan Defence Relations

"The geo-political reasons are many. In South Asia there are three major Muslim communities, largest being in India, the second biggest in Bangladesh and the third biggest in Pakistan." How can this be? Pakistan's population is some 25 to 30 million more than Bangladesh (according to official...

A Tale Of Two Bengals Where Never The Twain Shall Meet

As a Bangladeshi I don't mind if Arabs and other West Asians came to settle in Bangladesh. It would improve Bangladeshi genes. But given Bangladesh is still a relatively poor country and beset with problems of overpopulation, I doubt any West Asians will want to come and settle there anyway. But...

A Tale Of Two Bengals Where Never The Twain Shall Meet

India didn't help Bangladesh gain independence. It joined at the last minute and stole credit for a win that we would have managed on our own. As for a greater Bengal - only Bangladesh and West Bengal. No Assam or Tripura. In fact, we need to build a border all around Bangladesh as we...

Some people's dislike of Pakistan support

I don't like Hasina either but if it were up to you guys you would ruin Bangladesh with your fanaticism and stop it from progressing. Islam and progress should not be anthetical of one another. I have had couple of intelligent cousins (UCL graduates in mathematics both) lose direction in life...
