I'm more concerned about Indo-Russian relations wrt position with NATO. Don't deny your arguments. What you are missing is the fact that India is actively trying to get membership into SCO. It's widely believed to be Asia's answer to NATO. This will sort of throw a spanner into that plan of ours.

The military advises the parliament on the best options. Parliament takes a decision accordingly. It would be foolhardy of a parliament to take a decision against the better judgement of military experts. But that does not mean the IAF will not proceed with a directive of the parliament.
