Watch out Samsung! China's LeEco is coming for you with Vizio buyout

I spent months researching TVs before purchasing a Vizio TV last year. I suggest you guys go behind the marketing and actually do some research. It's not just yet another cheap TV brand, the functionalities and picture quality of Vizio TVs are just a slight step below mainstream leaders (not...

    Vietnam Defence Forum

I'm glad you finally admit that you're just making assertions. See, being honest isn't so hard, is it?

Slaves don't get wages, they don't get to choose which company to work for either. If they don't like Huawei, don't work for them. Still just assertions, no facts. I'm double degreed in electrical engineering and medicine, I think I'll pass on your offer. With that said, my Vietnamese...

Vtsnx, if you're so senior, why don't you back up your assertion with facts? What makes American steel superior to Chinese steel that conforms to the same standards?

    Vietnam Defence Forum

I agree, my statement is in many ways actually a rebuke to the post you replied to. I don't believe that it's in Vietnam's strategic interest to indigenize warship building. It might be in Vietnam's economic interest to learn how to build civilian ships, and much of that skill can be applied...

    Vietnam Defence Forum

The Indians may get there, Vietnam won't. Just not enough people, not enough revenue for a comparable defense budget. I mean, not even Japan or South Korea can build entirely indigenous warships or planes.

    Chinese Aero Engine information thread

Sounds pretty official, bodes well for the FC-31 and the JF-17. The last sentence says it's medium thrust, I think it's the WS-13x.

    Shenyang J-15 aircraft carrier-based aircraft

Note the hook in front of the landing gear, it's for catapult assisted take-off, signifying the first J-15 variant designed for CATOBAR.

Taiwan mistakenly fires missile towards China

BTW, how come Weibo posts are not arranged by chronological order?

Taiwan mistakenly fires missile towards China

Now, now, it probably didn't carry a real warhead or it didn't detonate. Any tiny amount of explosives should be able to annihilate that fishing boat. That it struck a small fishing boat 70km away is actually not bad at all in terms of accuracy.

Florida Pulse gay club attacked in Orlando - 50 dead and 53 injured

If criminals always find a way to get guns, how come China's numerous terrorist attacks seldom involve firearms? Gun ban works, if you can enforce it. Gun ban in Orlando doesn't work when you can buy guns in Ft. Pierce and bring them to Orlando freely. Gun ban in France doesn't work when you...

China's giant glass bridge hit with sledgehammer

They're very strong, but the weak point may not be the glass, it could be the attachment of the glass to the metal frame. There was a Canadian guy who used to demonstrate how strong the glass in this building was, and he'd run full speed into the glass window to everyone's gasp. He did it many...

This is yet another ugly chart for China's demographic future

Just because Japan failed doesn't mean China will. China is just entering middle income range and is already facing a surplus of labor and an unemployment crisis ahead. It'll only get worse for countries reaching the middle-income bracket later as robotics and AI are really starting to take off.

Chengdu J-20 5th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

I think most people here mean that J-20 has been turned over to the military and will achieve IOC soon. FOC is probably still a couple years away.

Chinese Jet Crash: Incompatible Russian Engine or Industrial Deficiency?

In Chinese there's a saying, if you're gonna squeeze a persimmon, squeeze the softest one (i.e. pick the easiest target). Well, engines have been China's achilles' heel, so it's natural that someone with an agenda against China would pick that to focus on. As I demonstrated, however, that...

Chinese Jet Crash: Incompatible Russian Engine or Industrial Deficiency?

Interesting, you reply to someone claiming it's 2016 with data from 2011. As of 2016, all J-11 variants except for the J-15 have been using the WS-10 variants for many years now. There were some production issues with the WS-10...like 10 years ago. It's long been resolved, and production...

China to build 500 more airports by 2020

Perhaps, but when the bubble busts China will have 500 more airports. The U.S. has 15000 airports, including 5000 paved ones. China has about 400 right now. Add 500 and China will still only have less than 1/5 the number in the U.S., surely you can't think that this number is "wasteful" for a...

China plans to move about 2 million poor people to relatively developed areas this year.

That's because they have less overall population. Urbanization rate in European countries and North America is ~85%. China is at ~55%. European countrysides are nice because not many people live there. But less problems in the countrysides. So which is worse? The answer is unequivocal. A...
