    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

No no.. this is not about Zhuk-ME. It's about the Range of BARS. Some people think BARS has a range of 200km for 5m2. That figure is way over blown. ------- Just did some calculations. For 5m2, BARS detection range is 159km For 1m2, BARS detection range is 106km APG-68 (V)9 (Onboard PAF...

What makes you think the test wasn't with a final version itself? Comeon, specs are specs, and even if it is a secret then the same goes for all other radars as well. If you can't trust specs, you can't trust anything. and the whole point of having a defence forum becomes invalid. Then how do...

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

Maybe it's the old Soviet standard. Current brochures only mention 5m2 or 3m2. There isn't much difference between 2.5 and 3 anyway.

^ That graph was already posted by me Sri. It was during a test. They never mention how long did the detection last nor did it mention about the status of Su-27. It was just an incident during a test, not the official specs. Specs are something, which can stand scrutiny of the buyer nations...

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

I posted it not to prove, but to disprove my earlier point. I was just checking out the various sources. And it is not 100nm, it's around 94nm. The Su-30MKI Info Page - Vayu Sena ^ Yup, this is the fan site I was talking about...

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

^ Those ranges could very well be for a B-52 or Boeing 747. Unless you have RCS figures accompanying them, those ranges are meaningless. Those figures you posted are claimed by the website run by an IAF fan. It's a tripod website which can be created in 10 minutes for free. Take those figures...

Could F-7P/PGs even Mirages be upgrade to BVR.

The problem with F-7P/PG is it's small nose. You can't squeeze in a radar big enough to perform BVR duties. These new F-7 series are mainly designed around maneuverability and hence has good low speed performance, and thus can perform reasonable ground attack role, unlike the IAF Mig-21Bisons...

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

Yeah. For some reason, IN thought Zhuk-ME was enough. ---- Regarding BARS, I found another info, but it's from a pakistani forum without any link, and the content may have been tampered with. Also it's a bit old. A further derivative of the N011 phased-array radar is being fitted to India's...

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

Given that all the ranges in that official brochure is for 5m2, I concluded 140km is for 5m2 as well. But then again, BARS is manufactured by NIIP, and Kopyo & Zhuk by Phazotron. So the companies may have different standards. If only they had given the damn RCS!!

That is not 135 km, it's 135 Nautical miles! That's Rosoboronexport's official brochure which can be downloaded from their site. But what irks me is they haven't given out the RCS. If only they had given out the RCS, it would end this confusion.

This graph says Bars Detection range for a 5m2 target is around 175km, This link says, the maximum detection range for BARS is 140 km. Bars This Official brochure, says Zhuk-ME is 120km for 5m2 target. Same as this deagel link- Zhuk-ME The official brochure says, the detection range for...

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

Even IAF Mig-29s will have Zhuk-ME. They were indeed comparing it with Su-30MKI. BARS is a very old Radar. The top 2 radars in the world today, the APG-77 of the Raptor and the Monster Radar Irbis are only 5 years and 3-4 years old respectively. Irbis is so power hungry that the current engines...

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

The reason why the bigger BARS has more or less the same range of the smaller Zhuk-ME is because, there is a decade difference of technology between them. BARS was given IOC in 1994, while Zhuk-ME in 2004. BARS is 16 year old technology!! We need to start MLUs for the MKIs in a few years.

    Navy's MiG29 superior to IAF's Sukhoi 30

MKI's radar range is hyped up. N-011 BARS radar range is 140km for a 5m2 target. For Mig-29k's Zhuk-ME, it's 120km for a 5m2 target. So it's pretty close when you factor in RCS. Talking about RCS, unlike specs such as engine thrust, Radar ranges etc, which is released in the public domain, a...

    Fighter TWRs compared

Wikipedia? See the engine data. That is wrong. Rd-33/Rd-93 thrust is 18300 normal afterburner. And the empty weight is wrong as well.

    Fighter TWRs compared

Yea. TWR, Wing Loading & Airframe G-limits are extremely important for a dogfighter. Without a good TWR, you won't accelerate or climb fast. Also when turning you lose energy fast. The only way to quickly regain the energy is to have a good TWR, preferably greater than 1. It's interesting to...
