    Indonesian Companies Invest Abroad

To their credit, their current comeback owed a lot to Anthony Salim ability. AFAIK as the poster child of Soeharto's crony, they are become public enemy number one when Soeharto falls. So they lose most of their fortune and sold most of their holdings (inside and outside of Indonesia) to pay for...

Will East Asia ever be integrated?

Stronger and powerful yes, but for the people itself, it's better to have more receptive local government than some far away Emperor who doesn't care about what happen in the neighbourhood. I think the odd for stronger encompassing World Government is bigger than the East Asian Union.

Will East Asia ever be integrated?

In your scenario, basically it's game over for Korea and Japan, as separate ethnic with their own living language and culture (especially Japan royalty). Also, I doubt the Chinese will accept Japan and Korea as their President/PM. Just look what happens to Manchu or some of the Chinese local...

Will East Asia ever be integrated?

Like EU with free travel across the border? At least another century or possibly never. Unless South Korea and Japan ready to give up their 'independence' and become just another rich province.

Should a Kra Isthmus be built?

Based on this article map, the shipping route is going to be close to Vietnam shore to get the saving distance. Will China build the canal and put their shipping line at the mercy of Viet AShM, after they hurt the Viet feeling (SCS conflict)?

Until someone literally rise from the graveyard, after several weeks or month of death, and talk about what happen. I don't think there's nothing obvious about it. Thanks, but I think I'll pass. Too many waifu = non stop head ache.

    Why Malaysian Malays hate Chinese?

I don't know about Malaysian Malay, but i know for sure that skin are not good indicator about laziness or entrepreneurship spirit. Moldova is whiter than Indo for sure, but they have lower GDP per capita. In USA, melting pot country, Asian have higher income than white, with India, Taiwan and...

IMO a good rule should encourage entrepreneurship and safety, also not raising the bar to enter the industry to almost impossible level and creating too big to be punish player.

Maybe the intention is good just like you said, but it's definitely overkill. One thing we need to remember, a ship is expensive, so the owner already have all the incentive needed to not get any accident, especially for small shipping company, one big accident can make the owner bankrupt and/or...

    Indonesia Economy Forum

Using the same logic, the government should make the same regulation and close all the small shop/stall, traditional market, farmer, fisherman or any small private business. Forced them to joint venture. In the end more competition is always good for customer. Usually in smaller port town...

    Indonesia Economy Forum

Ironic, the government talk about how big the multiplier from shipping industry, at the same time killing the small local shipping company using new regulation. Polite way to close small shipping company with less than 3-5 ship and reduce competition for the bigger player.

Why isn't Pakistan an industrial country yet? When will it become one?

Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, China all have relative low natural resource but they succeed. Natural resource does help but it also can be a double edge sword (Dutch disease). In the end i do believe mind set, good leader and institution matter more.

Why isn't Pakistan an industrial country yet? When will it become one?

Bold part, not really true. The biggest ethnic group in Indonesia is Javanese at 40%. One thing is different for sure, since beginning Indonesia puts heavy emphasis on nationalism. Interestingly enough 1. the biggest Islamic organization in Indonesia based on Java always supports Unity in...
