In a way I don't like this as who will observe corrupt government practices?
Having said that not much was done about it over the last 30 years so this is a good thing and will allow more personeel and resources to target militancy in Pakistan.
As the Yank say they are targeting the bad guys so I don't see the problem with this.
What would be the significance of a Pakistani drone doing the same job?
The situation with Police equipment also needs to be addressed especially given that comment.
After the army has done its thing it will be the police who have to carry out duties in these areas.
India is around 5 times larger than Pakistan so it has a greater need for a large armed force and as Fatman has pointed out this includes factors like population etc.
British Forces in Helmand province namely 16 Air Assault Brigade and 40 Commando ie the Paras and Marines use vehicles like this for quick mobility as well as others like quad bikes.
Most MRAPs have roots in South African designes vehicles where the design is to let the bomb blast take out the axls and wheels but not the crew compartment. if you look at pictures of blown up Cougars in Iraq you will see this is the case.
Unless spring mines or overhead artillary burst are...
If the borders are fenced they will just break through using bangalores like the Algerian fighters in the 1960s against the French.
Plus the UK has just announced recently to invest some £700 Million in new vehicles so I doubt they will want to leave after putting in that kind of money.
In the latest issue of combat and survival magazine is some of the new kit the British army will be deploying in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Amongst them is the new MAN series logistic trucks with up armoured crew cabs.
Kuwait already operates M84 MBTs from the former Yugoslavia and is more likley to go to Serbia or Croatia for new MBTs.
The Croatian M95 Degmann is a mean looking new MBT as well.
Looks very similar to the Lynx reconnaisance vehicle formerly used by Canada and the Netherlands.
That vehicle used M113A1 components and this certainly does from the looks of the road wheels and tracks.
For a light helicopter I would consider the Agusta Westland AW109 which has had some good success sales wise.
Also for medium lift South Africa has the Oryx which is essentially a Super Puma/ Cougar tailored again to the harsh bush environment.
Mark Sien,
I posted in a thread about AFM magazine a news item which said that reports suggested at least 6 ex Italian CH47C Chinooks have been set aside for resale to the Pakistan army.
Do you have any news or views on this?
Also what other heavy lift helo could Pakistan seriuously...
I knew I'd seen this info in post one before its...WIKIPEDIA
Regarding AH1Z this can also carry sidewinder missiles on its wing stubs which are considerably larger than previous models and I have seen somewhere footage of them launching a maverick missile.
Its mostly talk though due to the US military being overstretched Batmannow.
If Iraq and Afghanistan weren't US commitments then we'd be hearing very little from the Iranians.
Given the current scope of operations in FATA I am not in favour of a troop reduction in areas like infantry.
Gunships and fighters can dislodge and entrenched enemy but to keep hold of the gains requires boots on the ground.
IMO the most likely two are the Mi26 because Pakistan already has Mil helicopters in service but the CH47C is allegedlly on the cards form Italy as the older Italian Chinooks are due to be replaced by new "F" models.
I would like to see both as India may be doing the same with Mi26s in a...
