Japan to distribute 100,000 packets of free instant rice to Chinese tourists to boost rice exports

Northern and Eastern China traditionally eat short-grain rice, similar to Korea and Japan. This type of rice is called japonica, but despite the name it originates from China, not Japan (that said, in most of Northern China, wheat noodles and mantou are more common than rice). In Southern China...

    Chinese Food & Cuisine...

A lot of the dish designs on page 1 look quite childish and unappetising actually. It's not refined or elegant. The chefs are trying to go for pseudo nouveau cuisine (European style) but there's just too much food on the plate for one person, which looks unrefined. For instance this dish is...

It's just because their airports are older and were built in the 20s and 30s. In 50 years time, other countries will have newer looking airports than China.

Winter wonderland in China, just beautiful

It only snows in the mountains in North Vietnam / China border (i.e. Sa Pa) Did you guys know it also snows in the mountains of Africa? Snow in mountains is nothing special. Vietnam is not a temperature country with 4 distinct seasons.

why does Vietnam develop better than India?

If you compare Pyongyang and Hanoi, you will see the difference in organisation and planning, despite both having Communist / Marxist backgrounds. Pyongyang, while being much poorer than Vietnam, looks much more orderly and planned. Hanoi looks more...chaotic. It's like the difference between...

No she didn't become Chinese. She starred in a film directed by Jackie Chan, that does not suddenly make you Chinese.

Starbucks' China business will one day overtake its US market

Starbucks blegh. Too much sugar, too much milk. Westerners also love Krispy Kreme doughnuts, which I also find to be sickeningly sugary.

Nearly a Quarter of China Could Be Forest by 2020

Oh this is excellent. Does anyone know what kind of trees China will be planting? I think more forests in the north would be good and may help stop the desertification / soil erosion that is a problem there.

In Indonesia, 1998 violence against ethnic Chinese remains unaddressed

Ah I wasn't aware of that. I hope other Chinese in SEA feel the same way toward China too! Certainly it would be great if China helps them. That said I've always wondered how Singaporean and Malay Chinese feel toward China, whether they are Western aligned or what.
