In Portuguese Army, during Mechanized Brigade assault on a urban position, its standard operation procedure to detach a M109A5 Battery with the first wave to make direct fire against the edge.
At presente I believe there are at least 4 Armoured Regiments with T69IIMP with the 4 Inf Divs of the IV/XXX Corps, equipped with 105mm guns. The rest prabably have been sent to the FC equipped with 100mm guns as above.
When the Mech Divs were formed, they did it from at least two existing IABGs, these had T85IIAP tanks (probably sent to the 4 Inf Divs of V/XXXI Corps) and their SP Regiments were reequiped with M109A5. So their older M109A2s were retrofited and sent to replace existing towed guns in the...
The M109A2s were in mixed SP Medium Regiments (6 in the ArmDivs and 6 in IABG), each had 12 M109A2+6 towed 130mm
The M109A5 came for the MechDivs, 6 full SP Medium Regiments (3 with each), each have 18 M109A5
Thats my guess!
The R&S Battalions were part of the "Five and a half Division plan".
Two Corps with 4 Infantry Divisions and 1+1/2 Armoured Divison
Each of the 4 Infantry Divisions had only 7 Infantry Battalions and a R&S Battalion to compensate fire-power for less-men.
Thanks
I had bad information so:
R&S Platoon each 2 Jeep w/RCL + 2 Jeep w/LMG
R&S Company with 3 Troops
R&S Battalion with 4 Companies
Much more logical!
The Medium Regiments (Towed) have 12 M198/114 155mm + 6 Type.59-1/M46 130mm, but they make most of the Corps Artillery Brigades.

Friends, LAT/HAT are a legacy of R&S Battalions, so these must have 48 ATGMs, not 24.
Each R&S Troop had 3 Jeeps w/RCL +3 Jeeps w/LMG + 1 Jeep w/Radio.
Each Company had 4 Troops
Each Battalion had 4 Companies
Isnt the same? 48 instead of 24?
About the Infantry Division...
I think that 37th Infantry Division is the Army GHQ Reserve, and its attached to Ist Corps for administrative proposes only. It should became the real Rapid Responce Formation (partialy air assault capability). It could be used in any type of terrain (North-South), not specifically one terrain...
Friend, I have been warning for some time!
"Last time they bought new M109....They formed new Mechanized Divisions"
My question was also "Were are the new Al-Khalid-I going to?"
Thanks

The Portuguese Army's Rapid Reaction Brigade is receiving 139 VAMTAC ST5 4x4 light armoured tactical vehicles from URO Vehículos Especiales (UROVESA) to meet the "Viaturas...
One viable reorganization option is (to save men) to keep ALL the Army structure as it is, and to cut the 4th Rifle Company in each Infantry Battalion. This could be a Reserve Company on Mobilization. You should retrain to operate with 3 rifle Coys instead of 4, as most of the Armies do.
There...
