Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

Buddy, careful when you say, "1947 should have seen the creation of three independent nations", because that would tantamount to accepting that the 2 nation theory was probably not a wise theory after all.

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

I am not suggesting anything. I am pointing out, that the rise of Bengali nationalism was sparked by that incident. It gathered wind over time due to many other misadventures of Pakistani leadership.

Indian Muslims can they be trusted? by Amit

Yes, I have a problem with those, who give their religious identity preference over their national identity. It means, that a person is willing to uphold anything that concerns his religion, even if it is counter productive to his nation. In other other words, "INDIVIDUAL" is getting preference...

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

^^ Correct, but it was only after the "bhasha andolon" (language movement), which resulted in the brutal 21st Feb, 1952. It was this incident, that sparked the Bengali national movement.

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

Let me remind you all, that India too had its own share of language movement. Immediately after the partition Nehru, decided to make Hindi the national language and phase out English over time (Article 343(1) provided for discontinuing English after 25th Feb, 1965). This move would have put the...

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

The context to this question is important. The original thread was an attempt to justify the rejection of Mujib’s electoral win. One thing led to another and finally, it was accused, that Pakistan never really allowed Bengalis to represent Pakistan. To which, a tiny list of Bengalis, who, at...

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

The answer to your first question would be an unambiguous YES. Of course, he was a Bengali, ethnically speaking. Unfortunately, though, what we are discussing, rather questioning, is not his ethnicity but if he truly represented his ethnic group. Yes, we are discussing the second question...

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

^^ Word salad. About 'ethnicity/race/race dilution', I had said... "With each passage of generation, the genetic influence of a particular generation gets diluted further down the line, although, some genes may never completely be lost. Thus, calling Iskander Mirza, an Arab is a stupid...

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

You have turned the theory of genetics on its head and spun it like a top. Genetics do not follow a linear route as you have depicted. Progenies do not inherit, half of fathers gene and half of mother genes. The distribution is never equal, and not to mention the random, mutations that result in...

    China-Tibet Relations, Past & Present

The possibility of US helping India during the days of conflict was a next to none. US was busy eyeballing USSR around Cuba. US help, whatever it was, came much later, after China had unilaterally ceased fire.

Why was the Awami League not allowed to form government in 1971?

You will be surprised my friend, how many members on this board would love to forget that part of the struggle. I seriously wonder if they are at all aware of the fact that 21st Feb is celebrated as International Language day, as a tribute to those bengali students who laid down their lives for...

Chinese Foreign Affairs News & Discussions

It is of course unfair of India to complain about Pakistan's ties with China. But I guess, it is absolutely India's prerogative to consider her enemy's friend, to be a threat (I would not use the term "enemy" vis a vis China. "Competitor" is a better and more accurate term).

What makes you think that something which can do cover ups, can not lie. Oh wait....you did say "seldom lie". Let me rephrase that. What makes you think that something which can do cover ups, can not lie more often than not. And interestingly enough, how does an average Chinese, I mean...

    India looking to develop Anti-Satellite

I would say, that it is a fair assessment, excepting a few areas, which are, well, comes from a little bit of misinformation. I do feel, that it is far wiser for India to match China on economic and social front, while maintaining a minimum deterrence against her. However to think that...

    The terms Islamists, Jihadists

^^ The term "terrorist" is preferred, probably, because it disassociates religion from immediate perception. I am not sure, if a mere translation (English to Urdu or Hindi) changes anything, other than making it a tad difficult for the westerners to pronounce.
