We need believers in our countries certainly but most importantly our governments must invest more on information warfare and propaganda and less on weapons. Actually there should be a balance between the two expenditures. Weapons can do so much but the truth about India must be disseminated around the world.

We have a lot of those types of youngsters in BD also and their apathy has to do with the power structures in our countries and also our education system. I think the main problem for both countries is our weakness in information warfare and propaganda. The Indians are damned good in these areas. There is much we can learn from them.

Of course my friend.Just what i need to say,is " Pakistan Sindabad."(I think ,the meaning of it, is victory for Pakistan,Am i correct?)

Thank you for your long message to me. I appreciate that you took so much of your time to respond. I do understand your point of view. I won't try to "argue" with you about your points of complaint about the US. I think that the issue for the US after 9/11 was whether or not to treat the al Qaeda attack as a criminal matter or as a war. The public pressure to stop it from happening again was very great and, also, I think that George W. Bush saw it as the "mission" of his Presidency to "save" the nation. I think he liked being a "war time" President. If he had not screwed up so badly by taking us into Iraq, it might have worked out for him. However, the result has been what is now plaguing us.

Of course, from out point of view, we are only reacting to being attacked. Because we are such a rich and powerful country it is feasible for us to go on the offensive and take the war to wherever the "enemy" is hanging out. Unfortunately that includes Pakistan.

I have sometimes wondered whether it would be better to just concentrate of making our borders secure and accepting that a terrorist attack every year or so might happen. I mean, probably only a few hundred, or even a thousand Americans would die each year if that happened. That is far fewer than are killed in auto accidents (~ 30,000/ year) or than the number of US armed forces that die fighting the WoT each year. But, people, including us Americans, are not rational about such things. Our public will accept spending 1000 service man's lives and maybe $200 Billion a year just to prevent a terrorist attack or two in the US each year.

Before we were attacked on 9/11, I think the only "legitimate" beef the Muslim world had with the US was it's unbalanced support of Israel. Now we are in a vicious cycle of action/reaction with the Muslim world, orchestrated by Jihadi groups like al Qaeda. We can't stop, or they will take it as a huge victory and be emboldened and given respite to strike the US even worse than 9/11. We can't negotiate a "cease fire", they aren't even a State or an entity we can negotiate with. So, unfortunately, I think it will go on until they are defeated, especially in Pakistan, or we both get tired enough to behave as if there is a cease fire, even though not proclaimed.

As for the nuclear issue, I am afraid that A Q Khan's dealings have frightened the US about transferring nuclear technology to Pakistan. And, for other weapons systems, the US is not interested in encouraging Pakistan/India competition. We want to provide Pakistan with such financial aid as is helpful for Pakistan to achieve solid internal stability and to extend the writ of the Pakistani State to everywhere within its territory. This task does not need advanced US weapons systems.

So, I'm truly sorry for the killing and destruction going on within Pakistan because we have taken the war to FATA. I wish that ALL of the Pakistani citizens in FATA would put Pakistan first by (1) stopping the harboring the international Jihadis and (2) stopping their support of Afghan Taliban fighters.

Its something that we can work constructively on. I am sure you guys are busy tackling the Indian propaganda but I think Islamabad has to see things in a regional context. Anyway I hope things cool down between Pakistan and India so that we can all relax.
