Zardari calls for immediate arrest of Nawaz, his family

Former president Asif Ali Zardari has demanded immediate arrest of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members.

“While the PPP leaders were released from detention after 2.5 years, Sharifs get bail in a day,” he said in a statement, in an apparent reference to Asim Hussain and Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar.

Dr Asim, who was charged for corruption and terror financing in 2015, left the country earlier this year.

On the contrary, Captain Safdar, who has been indicted in a corruption case by an accountability court, was arrested on his arrival from London last week. He was released on bail within hours.

Terming the accountability of Nawaz and his family a farce, the PPP co-chairman said the former were being held ‘accountable’ with a VIP protocol.

Earlier in the day, an accountability court indicted Nawaz in the Flagship Investment Ltd reference filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau. The judge read out the charges against Nawaz to his legal representative, Zafir Khan, who pleaded ‘not guilty’.

PPP leaders, Zardari added, had been imprisoned first and then cases were lodged against them. Lamenting that his party’s leaders had been “subjected to trials in multiple courts”, Zardari hoped the same should happen to the Sharifs.

The PML-N chief was disqualified in a landmark verdict of the Supreme Court on July 28 following investigation into the Panama Papers.

How are these non state actors like Zardari allowed to openly dictate government?

This guy has withdrawal issues

In democracy anyone can demand from the govt....that's the core of democracy and his demand is really fair. We all feel that NS family is receiving preferential treatment. If anyone else was facing such grim charges, he would long before be in jail and subject to torture.

There's no preferential treatment. The justice department is just slow.

preference treatment is given to zardari more as he is not disqualified and is not prosecuted for karachi killings revealed by uzair baloch.he should also be hanged along with nawaz

Whether slow or afraid.. people get the impression that they are still roaming free with official protocols. They abuse the judiciary, military and even judges but no action is taken. They misbehave and beat the police officers outside the court room and nothing is done. Their names have not bee added to ECL. The judiciary is slow and afraid ..Zardari's demand is totally fair and thus I second him.

Blame the government not the justice system then.

The cult of PMLn is still ruling the country. Judicial system seems handicapped or handcuffed in this regard. The Muslim People's Movement is anti-justice, anti-Pakistan and pro-corruption. Judicial system seems to be helpless here.
