Dhaka, Nov 3 (bdnews24.com)—The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is expected to reopen popular video streaming website YouTube in December after removal of a controversial anti-Islam video clip that mocks Islam and ridicules Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

BTRC Chairman Sunil Kanti Bose told bdnews24.com on Saturday, "The authorities of Google have already held meeting with BTRC and they are interested to see YouTube reopened in Bangladesh by December through alternative server under special arrangement."

He said that Google would also block the scopes of viewing other controversial video clips, which could trigger religious, social, political or communal tension in Bangladesh.

A senior official of the telecom regulator said that with independent server, it was possible to easily stop the scopes of viewing any controversial video clips.

On Sept 17, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) temporally blocked the YouTube over the video titled 'Innocence of Muslims' as it mocks Prophet Muhammad.

The move came as Google US and the Google APAC that control the IT services operations including YouTube facility across the Asia-pacific region did not respond to a request from Bangladesh to withdraw the film.

Later, demands for reopening YouTube came strongly in the social networking sites including Facebook. The issue also got importance in the media.

BTRC Vice-Chairman Giasuddin Ahmed had earlier told a press conference that the popular video sharing website could be re-opened any time after removal of the controversial film that sparked protests in the country.

Different Islamist organisations set US flag on fire in protest against the making of the film.

The film, created in the US and released on June 23, sparked violent protests in the Middle East and around the globe with protesters attacking Western embassies including that of the US in Libya, Egypt, and Yemen. A US Ambassador was killed in a rocket attack in one of the violent attacks in Libya.

In the wake of the protests, the video clip was removed from YouTube domains covering India, Egypt and Libya. The Afghan and Pakistan government blocked YouTube.

Both Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have already urged the US government to take steps against the Director of the controversial film.
