The sixth game in Sid Meier's Civilization, a hugely successful turn-based-strategy video game series, was released last week. In this game, players can build a civilisation, take control of armies and wage wars. They can choose to control different countries of the world, including India.
if you pick Indiay you can play as Mahatma Gandhi, "who remains revered around the world for his commitment to peace", as the narrator says in the video above, a first look version of the game.
In continuance with the Mahatma's philosophy, any civilisation that attacks India has their happiness points penalised. There is also a "religious victory" option, where you can beat enemies by converting them to your religion. Does it sound too close to reality for comfort?
In the entire game, India remains the only civilisation that promotes peaceful co-existence, at least, until the nukes come out. In past games, the video game version of Gandhi gained internet notoriety for the frequency with which he resorted to using nuclear weapons. Here's Hitler reacting to being "nuked by Ghandi".
