Yoga classes are secular, says US court

.
lol... try introducing the same in Indian schools & make it compulsory... & see what the reactions would be like by the so called seculars in India! :sarcastic:

The adarsh liberals can not fathom the court ruling. You see they have a very small area in brain for common sense !

Good decision, what does a mediation practice have anything to do with religious invasion?
The response of the internet Hindus here is really funny as well. Reminds one exactly of the phenomenon taking place all over the world, where the once uneducated classes of a religion become its leadership.

.
Yoga is a pure pagan ritual with clear hindu origins. But to liberal secular west such things doesn't matter. They r irreligious any way and Christianity was paganized by pagan Constantine more than 1600 years ago. There is not anything left to be paganized. SO hindutvadis can relax.

U want to force muslim kids into your pagan ritual?

WTF. Indians should be ashamed.

Yoga is one of the astika paths in Hinduism. :disagree:

Instead of protesting this, Hindus are celebrating this. This is a classic example of digesting Hindu and Indian culture by the US and denying Hinduism the Intellectual property of this means of spirituality.

I condemn this move to divest Hinduism of Yoga.
Tough shit -- To put it bluntly. When Asian martial arts began their entries into the US and European societies, the same religious fears existed.

If a person have a tendency towards the mysticism of any religion, and even the Abrahamic religions have their mystical beliefs, there will be no stopping that person once he is determined to explore that part of himself and a religion. The corollary exist for secularism. If a person see the physical and healthful benefits of yoga and is determined to keep the religious aspects out of his practice of yoga, he will find a way to separate the two.

Yoga IS the example of what Religion can teach one, you freaking Moron

Yoga IS designed to help one benefit health, both mental and physical. It is one of the MOST common path of Hinduism. All Temple worship is part of Yoga tantra.

Doing yoga DOES make one HINDU you fool. It is one of the most common aspect of Hinduism. Only now they are divesting Hinduism of this very powerful tool and calling it "secular" or in other words, "non Hindu".

It is you who is demonstrating a mindless "religion hating" mindset  ......... the inglorious ignominy of hearing you say that to me is priceless.

It is a decision that is designed to help christian practice Hinduism and still call it Christianity. It is digestion of Hinduism. How is that something to celebrate ?
nice try ! i admit.

What has martial arts go anything to do with Yoga ? Martial arts was never religious :cheesy: ............ in china they were used to defend religion and religious places.

Yoga itself is a religious practice of Hindus. Designed to unite the body and mind helping them realize how to be part of the universe. A practice designed to help them understand the universe much better. That is what Hinduism is all about.

If you try to view Hinduism through Abrahamic eyes then you will make ignorant comment like keeping "religion" and "yoga" separate.

Yoga IS THE RELIGION. Its practice IS the Religious practice. Not every Yogi reaches Mahayoga, most just get the physical and spiritual benefits. That is what makes them Hindus.

Since Hinduism is NON EXCLUSIVE unlike Christianity and Islam, it is the very embodiment of secularism. Stop trying to see this through western prejudice, try to see it like an Indian.

The ruling is specific:

".......that the yoga program in the Encinitas Union School District is "devoid of any religious, mystical or spiritual trappings."

Makes no comment about Yoga itself.

It is an comment of Yoga. A start to separating it from Hinduism.

The practice of yoga is the practice of Hinduism. To reduce it to "physical education" is a lie.

Yoga Asana is the first step on that path, to say that it is devoid of any religious, mystical or spritual "trapping" is a Lie. How is that a "trapping" ? There is no trap, it is not designed to convert. IT is designed to help people and the people who uses it become practising Hindus since the are practising Hinduism.

Not every yogi is a "paramahansa", most are just normal people (Hindus) using it to bring balance to their life. That is what Hinduism is. A way to bring balance into peoples lives and align it to the universe. And yes, Banning Beef is also a part of that.

The religious components in the various Asian martial arts have always been acknowledged.

The point here is that if there is a way to separate the religion -- or religious components -- from the martial arts or yoga, that separation WILL occur.

Surya Namaskar was found offensive by people as it meant saluting/worshipping the sun, "a pagan thing".
In Malaysia the official group of clerics examined yoga and found it to be anti muslim, and sent out a fatwa.

If you watch the video, she says that she limits what she teaches, and leaves out some things, esp, the spiritual and meditative aspect of it.

Similarly, many christians have now started "Christian yoga" where Chakras have become Christ points (or something like that).

"I loved doing Yoga, but hated I was bringing Eastern religions into my home & letting it infiltrate into my children"

There is a strong undeniable hindu element in yoga, they are going around it by giving it fancy names. It's like changing the name of christ and saying look this isnt christianity.

Very true. I wanted to say the same about martial arts but refrained because they would say that martial arts have no religious leanings and was practised by Buddhist monks for their own security. But with some Yoga asanas they say you can enhance the mystic experience by simulating the chakras. I guess if you avoid those specific asanas then you are fine.

Would you rather prefer that they not call it yoga at all & completely deny its roots? Can always call it something else. I think you are stretching it too far. If this cover allows them to practice an ancient Hindu practice, so be it. It's a bit like having a "festival of colours" & calling it "holi" in many places of Europe & the Americas but without connecting it to Hinduism even if they acknowledge its origin.

Wait for a few years, there may be at this moment scores of Mallu Churches re-writing the origins of Yoga. Do not be surprised to hear that St. Thomas gave the secrets of yoga he had learnt from Jesus to the heathens when he landed in India in 1 AD. Already they believe that Christianity is older than Hinduism in Kerala and it was the Christian kings who gave refuge to the persecuted demon worshiper (aka Hindus) in Kerala. Another of their pet belief is that the Thirukural was written by St. Thomas.
Are you dumb or what??..What the f is Thirukural??..Its not even a Malayalam word...'kural' means voice in Tamil language..I think it was a Tamil epic written by thiruvalluvar(if i am not wrong)..why should we want to believe that it was written by St.Thomas..We don't care about any Tamil epic or even Tamil language...May some dimwit KONGA KATPATIS believes all these nonsense..We have nothing to do with..
