Xi vows to strengthen military cooperation with Pakistan
China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners and loyal friends, Chinese President Xi Jinping said.
Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistani Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Beijing on Wednesday.
Xi asked Bajwa to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to Pakistan's President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He spoke highly of Pakistan's support to the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The Chinese president said the two sides should strengthen their military cooperation to fight against terrorism and safeguard mutual benefits.
The two countries have supported and helped each other with fruitful results achieved in mutually beneficial cooperation, while the current international and regional situation is complex and unstable, Xi added.
He also vowed to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Pakistan on international and regional issues and called on the two countries to firmly support each other on issues involving respective core interests and major concerns.
Xi expressed appreciation for the high importance Pakistan attaches to military building and the important role it plays in safeguarding national security and development.
Bajwa said Pakistan has always regarded the development of the bilateral relations of the two countries as a priority.
He said Pakistan will firmly support the Belt and Road Initiative and always stand together with China on issues concerning each other's core interests no matter how the situation changes.
He also thanked China's assistance to Pakistan in all aspects and said that Pakistan will further strengthen strategic communication, practical exchanges and counter-terrorism cooperation with the Chinese military.
