Regarding WS-15, if equipped it will further improve its performance but nothing indicated by chief designer current engine used do not meet the requirement of 5th gen. For example, if current engine allows it to supercruise at 1.2M while still able to achieve thrust of more than 1:1. Therefore it still qualify as meet the standard.

Fit with WS-15 will further increase supercruise to 1.4M-1.5M and higher than 1:1 weight thrust ratio. But does that mean not using WS-15 will disqualify it as not meeting the requirement?

What it means is, with current engine, if J-20 goes supersonic, it will have to use afterburners making it visible like a Christmas light on a clear night.
