Strategic and foreign relations are not zero sum game.
Even before CPEC Pakistan was heavily tilted towards China for obvious reasons but Japan is World's 3rd largest economy.

US, $20.4 trillion
China $14 trillion
Japan $5.1 trillion
--- 2018 World Economic Forum

IK govt should also establish flourishing economic and industrial relations with Japan along with China. Japan has superior technologies and all the eggs should not be put in just one basket.
Focus should also go to EU as Pak-US old relations are bygone.

Japan is very much controlled by western policies, but thinking about this logically, what could they possibly offer CPEC?

CPEC at this stage does not need super advanced tech. It needs a strategy and a strong leadership to see through. China has delivered both in ways that Japan could never have done.

Pakistan has to decide in her long term interests and that will form the core of PTI's foreign policy.

See, this mentality is why we can never be a great nation.

Bismarck once said something like " great Nations put their intereste first"

Why are we concerned with China so much?
We don't have dipolatic connections to Taiwan because of China.... For fcuk sakes, CHINA HAS DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WOTH TAIWAN.

we need to engage everyone regardless of other countries pressures.

China is important to us, but they don't own us.

We should have relations with Japan encourage their investment in Pakistan have good business ties with them too future growth like wise South Korea this century belongs to Asia make the most of it

.
I don't think Pakistan increasing economic ties with any country will effect Pak-China relationships, so there's no question of balancing

.
What investment have Japan done in Pakistan? You give preference to the ones who invest. Always.

.
First we should look at ourselves instead of looking to others

.
But first he should successfully mediate relations between Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Jehangir Tareen. Alas! he has failed miserably there.

On the other hand, see chinas investments in India. Which mount to billions of dollars each year.

It’s just healthyyy competition, Khan knows that. Both are two different minds, Shah Mehmood is a politician mr Tareen is business, buniyaadi tor pe, clash toh hona hai.. also there’s an power struggle thing going on but that there in every party.

Sir, you are a think tank. You plan for 50 years. You plan for unexpected too. It will be bordering to foolishness to just rely on CPEC. Is it written that China economy will keep growing at double digits? Didn't we rely on single source of US for too long. China is reliable but strategies change when conditions change. One should not be wholly dependent on one source.
Even for personal and institutional stocks, you always diversify.
FDI should come from many sources.

Did you forget the Gwadar-Singapore drama?

CPEC is not only about China. Its a lot more than just one project. It connects all of Central Asia to Pakistan. It's certainly not one source. We are putting Pakistani interests first by working with the strongest country that is not swayed by other hostile powers.
Russia and Iran are the other countries we should be bringing onboard, and as far as I know both have supported it.

Japan has interests elsewhere and their commitment to linking Pakistan to Central Asia is questionable at best. As far as I know we already have cooperation with Japan in the automotive sector. We are not dismissing them on the basis of our relations with China.

To further strengthen the "CPEC" project and avoid over reliance on China, we need to stabilize Afghanistan and have multiple routes north via that country.
