For those of you who enjoy a good scare, Hotels.com recommends some places of interest around the world that are the most haunted.

From creepy vaults in Edinburgh to forests in Japan where people have committed suicide, these destinations are bound to send shivers down your spine, even for the most fearless of travellers.

#1. Tower of London, London, England

One of the most haunted and well-conserved historical buildings worldwide is the Tower of London, that is renowned for being the former prison of some of Britain's most notorious figures.

Numerous ghost sightings have been reported in and around the site.

Perhaps the most constant presence is the spirit of a headless Anne Boleyn, wife of King Henry VIII, who was beheaded in 1536 when she was unable to produce a male heir.

Her ghost has been spotted on many occasions, sometimes carrying her head, on Tower Green and in the Tower Chapel Royal.

Another area within the site, the Salt Tower, is so spooky that even dogs have apparently refused to enter the premise.

#2. Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan, India

Renowned for being the most haunted site in India, Bhangarh Fort is said to be under the powerful spell of a wicked black magic sorcerer, who spun a curse on the palace when the beautiful queen snubbed him

According to legend, everyone who once lived within the kingdom in the 1700s was cursed to die and have their souls trapped there for eternity without rebirth.

#3. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

Perched atop a rocky crag, the medieval Edinburgh Castle is believed to be one of the most haunted spots in Scotland.

The magnificence of this 900-year-old Scottish citadel belies its notoriety for being the torture ground of prisoners from both the French Seven-Year War and the American Revolutionary War.

#4. Aokigajara Forest, Mount Fuji, Fujiyoshida, Japan

topImage.jpg

Situated at the northwest base of the stunning Mt. Fuji, the 3,500-hectare wide Aokigajara Forest is a popular location for suicides.

Home to over 500 reported suicides since the 1950s, this discomfortingly thick and dark woodland is better known among locals as the Suicide Forest.

In recent years, the local government has stopped publicising the numbers in a bid to downplay Aokigahara's association with suicide.

As eerie as it may sound, it is not uncommon for hikers to stumble upon dead bodies propped against a tree or swinging from a branch.

Japanese spiritualists believe that the suicides committed here have permeated the soil and trees, creating an atmosphere of eerieness and preventing many who enter from escaping the twisted depths of the forest.

#5. The Screaming Tunnel, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

topImage.jpg

Located just under the old railroad tracks near Warner Road, the Screaming Tunnel is widely-known among locals for being haunted by a young girl who burned to death in the middle of the tunnel.

As the story goes, more than a century ago, a farmhouse located on the south side of the tunnel caught fire one night, entangling a little girl in flames.

Overwhelmed with panic, she ran towards the tunnel in a futile attempt to extinguish the fire that had engulfed her.

Rumour has it that if you stand in the middle of the tunnel and light a match, you'll hear her screams and the lit match will suddenly blow out.

For more scary adventures, next are haunted hotel rooms to see, or avoid, if you can't handle it.

The last niagara falls screaming tunnel is true. Ive gone inside and it feels weird. Btw some people have downplayed the screaming of the girl, they believe the screaming noise actually comes from the massive underground water pipelines that provide clean water to the huge farmland around it.
