NEW DELHI: Move aside MCG, the tag of the world's largest cricket stadium will belong to an Indian stadium soon. Construction work at the new Motera stadium is on in full swing.
With 90 percent work already completed, the revamped cricket stadium in Motera is set to be not just the biggest cricket stadium in the world, but also perhaps the one with the best facilities.
With a seating capacity of 1,10,000 to accommodate the fans, the stadium will overtake the current record-holder, the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (Approx 95,000 capacity) as the biggest cricket stadium in the world.
Interestingly, Australian company Populous -- architect of Melbourne cricket stadium -- is also the principal architect of the stadium being built by the Gujarat Cricket Association.
With an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore, the work in and around the stadium is on in full flow and construction work is expected to be fully completed by January 2020.
In a bid to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of having the world's largest stadium in Gujarat, GCA president Amit Shah, senior vice-president Parimal Nathwani and joint secretary Jay Shah are closely monitoring all developments and providing inputs at each stage of the project.
