Lucknow:At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to engage minority leaders to stress the inclusive nature of his government and minority affairs minister Najma Heptullah intends to launch skill-development programmes for minority communities, BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj, known for his offensive communal remarks, has triggered another controversy by saying “women in Islam are no better than footwear”.

The BJP spokespersons have gone silent and the party’s Muslim faces, which include Union minister M.A. Naqvi and spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, were not available for any response.

Talking to reporters in his constituency Unnao on Saturday, the BJP MP, known for his venomous statements, said, “Women in Islam are no better than footwear — wear it when you want and throw it away when you do not want it. Women should be given the right to offer namaz in mosques and I demand judicial intervention to allow women to enter mosques.”

Islam gave equal rights to Arabs who like Indians used to bury their daughters .. Marriage again was considered an insult for the girls parents .. Islam gave women right in inheritance,education and so on.

That's a cultural phenomenon.. Not a religious one .. Islam was introduced 1500 years ago when the society was much different than today's modern world and to interpret Islamic juris.. Islam itself has introduced various methods and processes .. For an evolving world/society.. If somebody strictly his own interpretation or brand of views .. You can't do shyt.

You can take a "donkey" to water but you can't force it to drink..

To protect the sanctity of marriage Islam has made several attempts .. Dower for women,inheritance,negotiations to save marriage .. The process of Divorce itself is a complicated one ... And to top it .. Islam has considered divorce as the most disgusting practice of all.

As for polygamy .. Again .. The consent of the wife -- for a husband to consider another marriage is a must in Islam .. A man can only marry 2 women .. If he has been given consent by his first wife ... If he can mainframe equality between the two.. If he can afford the maintaince .. Both emotionally/physically and financially.. And so on..

What is "muslim" culture ? There is no such thing as a Muslim culture! Ethiopia is a Christian country .. It has several fuked up issues .. Highest homicide rate (around 35+ k killed),female circumcision,child marriages etc etc.. Does that mean.. We should blame Christianity for those problems ? Or that It's their "Christian" culture to blame?

There is no such thing as honour killings in Islam ? Islam gives women rights to marry a man of their choice .. Than why do countries (including India),Pak,Afghanistan etc have honour killings? Because of the "local" culture not Islam !

Muslim culture is any culture practiced by Muslims regardless of what Islamic teachings are. Islam is against terrorism, homicide, force marriages etc yet Muslims are practicing it all over the world.

Again I'm more inclined to think of Satti (burning widows on pyres) as more of a cultural practise .. It's was/is practices mostly by Rajputs... I could be wrong though.
