In the coming days, Egypt will receive the first batch of "Sukhoi Su-35" fighters, which were specially manufactured for the Egyptian Air Force, in a qualitative shift in which Cairo will enhance its defense and offensive capabilities.

The Russian website "Top War", which specializes in defense affairs, said that the first batch of fighters took off from the airport of "Komsomolsk-on-Amor" airline, and went to the European part of Russia, where it will be delivered to the customer.

In 2018, Russia and Egypt signed a contract to supply 24 fighters of this type at a value of two billion dollars.

The arrival of these fighters comes at a time when Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Thursday that "very serious challenges" are facing the country, and require that "the Egyptians be the heart of one man."

What distinguishes "Sukhoi Su-35"?

Sukhoi type Su-35 is a Russian air fighter, in addition to being a multi-role, single-seat, twin-engine fighter, which is a superior maneuverability belonging to the generation of 4++ fighters, designed by the company "Sukhoi".

Its length is about 22 meters and height of about 6 meters, and its speed reach 2800 km / h at an altitude of 11 km, which is more than the American stealth fighter F35 with a speed of 1900 km / h.
The range of the plane is 3600 km, and its maximum range may reach 4,500 km, in case external fuel tanks are added. This long range gives the aircraft a great ability to reach remote targets without having to refuel if necessary, but it also has the ability to refuel in the air.

Armament capacity

The Sukhoi 35 is armed with an internal machine gun containing 150 30-mm rounds (Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-1), in addition to 12 suspension points (two suspension points on the flanks of the wings, 6 points under the wings and 4 points under the airframe) they are loaded with Air-to-air, air-to-ground missiles and anti-ship missiles.

The fighter is equipped with multiple types of short, medium and long-range missiles with high hit accuracy, as well as an advanced radar system that gives them the ability to track a large number of enemy targets and destroy all types of air, land and sea targets.

Its superior maneuverability and long-range air-to-air missiles ensure its qualitative superiority in the case of air combat with modern enemy fighters.

So Rafales, SU-35s along with so many vipers...looks excellent but wouldn't that become a maintenance nightmare as well?

SU-35 my friend not SU-30..
Apparently the maintenance does not seem to pose a problem to the EAF..
My bad, I've edited it. But clearly it seems that Egypt is shifting its emphasis from Uncle Sam to other countries for the military hardware supply. Su35s will serve Egypt well for decades ahead.

I expect they’re going to retire f 16s since they are not amraam capable. Su 35 should be logistic friendly since they are not trying to jam radars from country a with avionics from country b and missiles from country c

Don't expect that anytime soon..The BVR part is covered now with more than 100 generation 4++ fighters; Rafale, Mig-35 and SU-35.. can you imagine what 220 F-16s can do in WVR and in ground attack!?

My friend, Egypt is just modernizing its air fore, it had Mirage from France modernised by Rafale, Mig-21 from Russia modernized by Mig-35.. the Chinese F-7 to be modernized by the JF-17 BLK III.. Egypt even had Su-7, Su-17 and Su-20 before..modernized by the SU-35 now.

Uncle SAM wants to do his part too and upgrade the F-16s..this is according to very recent news..

This purchase is a political decision and not a military one. Egypt is known for it. May be they are sending a message to US.

Ideally, Egypt needed something like large numbers of J-10 and Jf-17 combination. OR large numbers of Gripen with limited number of strike squadrons of typhoons/rafales.

A multirole fighter with limited number of escort/strike jets suited them.

The problem witrh the Su35 is that even if the aircraft meets its design parameters and its avionics are finally at the same level as China and the west, it is still backed by the poor quality BVR missiles with low PK ratios...
