With a 6% growth forecast, Bangladesh is set to be world’s fastest growing economy

. .
wow they are doing wonders under secular hasina wazed .
very good .
Yeah, very good if you are an outsider or Indian. Very bad if you live in Bangladesh. There is a cost for it and one of those is that the normalization of economy at the height of the pandemic. Other factors such as inflation, lowering savings interest rate which kills people's savings, unemployment, underemployment are ruining people's lives.

Bangladesh is on the path to Syria and Libya under dictatorships. Big roads and infrastructure to show development and economic growth but the lives of the average people go worse.

Also, it's funny when Indians talk about "secular" other countries when their PM is a Hindu extremist.

. .
Arbitrary figures. How can Bangladesh grow so much when large number of countries in the world went to lockdown, reducing demand for Bangladeshi exports?

Simple, dump in some inflation as "real"....voila.

Junk rating, worst-corruption GDDS countries have lot of scope and buffer to do this (esp if their tax collection is very low, their people are super incompetent at anything needing half a brain cell... and thus they need continual loan-top up externally by the only method on offer: pumping up paper GDP).

Added benefit is the inflation generated from this method, can supply even more "growth"...its a super fun ponzi scheme in the end....anyone gonna question it when you have 95% seats in govt?

Look at BD from space though (say to look at actual energy use), look at the neutral vetted figures externally (whenever a non-BD party is involved)....look at even the market cap (that took a right ole shellacking from the BAL ponzi scheme last year well before covid)?....NAAAAAAH.

But I guess they can be happy they are more "secular" in whichever way they blab-assert-define, when they arent hacking some hindu-atheist or some blasphemous-apostate blogger to death on the street or burn a rape-victim to death on a roof while their media stronkly deflect-harrasses some "anti-state agenda" hindu woman for being waaah-mean about BD in front of whole world in the white house.

What a fake charade this lot put up here, it shows up best when you sit back and let reality unfold.

Don't know why Indians like @GHALIB give them even one positive thought/line. These rejects (here) will misconstrue and attack it first thing, any way they can. It's best to give some credit face to face to an actual BD person you know out there in real world....because only shoulder-chip posers gather here and fester....and assert they are everything about everything about BD (after driving away anyone among them that doesn't submit to whatever their mob dynamic flavour of the year is). Yuck.

CPD says economy to grow by only 2.5% in outgoing FY2020

The Bangladeshi economy will grow by only 2.5% in the outgoing 2019-20 fiscal year as most of the sectors contributing to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, says the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).

In a virtual briefing on Sunday, the independent think tank also said poverty may rise to 35% in 2020, up from 24.3% in 2016.

Bangladesh’s GDP growth hit an all time high of 8.15% percent in the previous 2018-19 fiscal year.

CPD made the projections during its pre-budget briefing titled ‘Challenges of Policy Making in Times of Pandemics: State of the Bangladesh Economy in FY2020’.

“CPD estimates suggest that the GDP growth in FY2020 is likely to come down to about 2.5%, under the most optimistic scenario if further general holidays are not announced or stricter measures are not enforced during the rest of days of the fiscal year,” it said.

It has been taken into consideration that all economic activities were affected prominently in the almost two-month long “general holiday" to varying degrees concerning all sectors of the economy, added the think tank.

The hardest hit sectors include, manufacturing, construction, hotels, restaurants, transport, storage, communication, community, social and personal services, according to CPD.

“A 2.5% GDP is not that bad, when countries like India are forecast to see negative growth,” CPD Senior Research Fellow Towfiqul Islam Khan told the pre-budget briefing.

In a critical time like this, the focus should be on lives and livelihoods, he said.

Dismissing projections of a 6% GDP growth on the back of hefty figures in the first three quarters, CPD Distinguished Fellow Mustafizur Rahman said the last fiscal quarter has seen a drastic fall in manufacturing and other economic activities.

Based on data from the 2016 Household Income and Expenditure Survey, the think tank found that the poverty rate would increase from a little over 24% in 2016 to 35% this year.

Consumption inequality, measured by the Gini coefficient, is expected to rise to 0.35, up from 0.32 in 2016, it projected.

A similar analysis with a disaggregated income shock found an increase of the income Gini coefficient from 0.48 in 2016 to 0.52 in 2020.

Named after Italian statistician Corrado Gini, the Gini coefficient is a measure of statistical dispersion intended to represent the income or wealth distribution of a nation's residents, and is the most commonly used measurement of inequality.

Based on the global economic outlook since the outbreak of Covid-19, the World Bank has projected a GDP growth of between 2% and 3% in Bangladesh while the International Monetary Fund projected a 3.8% GDP growth.

According to Bangladesh Bank data, if the GDP growth comes down to 2.5%, it would be the lowest in 25 years since 1994, when it was 4.1%.

Every country in the world is affected by this killer of a disease (and economies).

There is no point in taking any respite from 'we better than other schmucks'. Everyone is going to be in the black hole for a very long time.

Those doing better by razor thin margins (like us) owe a big debt to countries worse off.

Bangladesh did well 8.5 months of this fiscal year. Only 2.5-3 month is affected but economy started to opening up. Earlier Bangladesh was expecting around 9% GDP growth. So is not 6% it’s very likely will be around 5% for sure.

'Baba baba ana mafi arabi Baba Baba maa'lish'

Individuals from the "highly competent" group doing what they do best. Note : they definitely have more than "half a brain cell"

Money can you afford you nice vacations in foreign lands but can't make up for a bad upbringing and a severe lack of shame and self respect.

Seemed like Punjabi Sikh family. How can a man of this means (seemed like well off) steal things from a hotel room? Unbelievable...o_O

Wasn't the memories and sightseeing enough of a reward?

Chhotolog Low lifes - don't these idiots have these types of souvenirs back home?? Caught stealing and still yelling, shame. They should shame these idiots in social media, so they don't have any friends left.

@Indos look at these Sanghi Cow belt Indians, everywhere these idiots go, they give us Bangladeshis and decent Indian/Pakistanis a bad name.

What would hotel owners in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia do, screw every decoration down so they cannot be stolen?

They're not Punjabi or Sikh.

This is in Bali, which is a Hindu majority province, very famous for its natural beauty. Hindu is stealing from another Hindu and they lecture us about unity

On an unrelated note I'd love to visit Bali and Raja Ampat.... My sister in law to be is Indonesian, so I'll soon have a reason to visit and enjoy the scenic beauty :yahoo:

Most Indonesians that I know, enroll in universities after graduating from high school.

The youth are all well educated and speak decent English, atleast those I have spoken to anyway.

She is persuing a masters in English literature.

I wouldn't know about jobs, an Indonesian could help you with that.

With export falling by, say, @$10 billion per year there is no way to a GDP growth. This year the effects of corona were felt after March. But, next fiscal it will be seen from July.

I hope the newly developed medicines will cause the suppression of the pandemic. That will again reverse the situation to a better one.
