We have had Muslims Cricket Captains, Muslim SuperStars, Billionaire Muslim Industrialists, Muslim idealogues, Muslim Generals but sadly muslims remain either unrepresented or confined to their pocket burrows when it comes to Politics. Currently we see a token presence in National Politics.

Why do you think this is the case?

India prides itself on it's secular democratic leader - So is it unreasonable to assume that 20% of population cannot produce a head of state of sufficient calibre while they excel at other spheres? Or is India and by extension it's majority politicians have an innate mistrust of Muslims when it comes to running the nation.

Do you think will a major party like BJP or Congress will ever nominate or elect a Muslim PM candidates? Do you think it is an idea whose time has come? I am not saying select some incompetent but atleast process should be started, non communal leaders should be cultivated so that one day take occupy the highest political office of our country. We have had enough of Azams and Owaisis who not only exploit but misrepresent their community.

Such a leader would be beyond symbolic and perhaps will manage to do what Obama failed to - Heal the rifts b/w our communities.

In this context

- Do you have some up and coming leader who in mind?
- Will people vote for him to be PM rejecting their communal biases and solely on his merits?

But the problem is every second day he will be taunt and told to go back to Pakistan

A great thinker and teacher is how i think of him. You are lucky to have had him as a citizen.

But the problem is every second day he will be taunt and told to go back to Pakistan
nope it is not so - i think we are yet to see even a minister of other religions either in Pak or Bang.

Very unlikely due to the low representation of Muslims in India. It's a big deal enough for them to win LS seats, let alone PM's seat. Only 22 Muslim MPs out of 545 this time.

BJP and Congress will continue fielding Hindu candidates for decades. Even Manmohan Singh was one off and he was still a Gandhi puppet.

Absolutely, you have already had 2 presidents who were moslem. Give credit to India it is very possible. In Pakistan or Bangladesh - I really doubt if a Hindu can ever become PM.
A regular muslim has as much chance of becoming a PM in Bangladesh as a hindu...which is zero....the PM position is fixed for generations to come.

We dont have Sikh PM, Gujarathi PM, Hindu PM or Muslim PM, we have only Indian Prime Minister. As long as any person keeps India above his own personal religion, caste or creed he will be accepted

I am afraid people still largely vote along the community lines that is why political parties field Hindu candidates "mostly" in Hindu dominated regions. Only in J&K and certain Muslim dominated districts in Assam, UP, Gujarat, Bihar, Andhara and WB we see Muslim nominations.

@randomradio is correct for now. Lets not beat around the bush - the premise of OP is clear - Muslims are under-represented in majority based politics. Our democracy is still not mature enough to ignore sectarian affectations. However can our political parties take the lead in this? Sonia nominated MMS and he was broadly accepted but so is any party brave enough to nominate a Muslim PM?

has anyone forgotten apj abdul kalam
abdul-kalam-passed-away.jpg

He was our President - Presidents are ceremonial posts - mostly like a reward for either exceptional achievement in national service or political work for the winning party - we have had both kinds - some exceptional patriots like Kalam and RadhaKrishnan and some stooges and bootlickers. Selection is through nomination and not elections.
