Pakistan is a nation on edge. Dire economic trends and rising security threats have ordinary Pakistanis increasingly hopeless about the country's future. A power struggle between the military leadership and ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan leaves the country politically fractured. Elections have been announced for January 2024 to replace the current caretaker government. But under Pakistan's current hybrid military rule, can a democratic leader emerge to bring about needed reforms?

In this video, Pakistan experts weigh in on the serious challenges the country faces, and what should be done to improve Pakistan's prospects.

I suggest a perfect solution:

Indians would say: "Halt CPEC and give Kashmir back to India".

According to Indians this will bring a lot of prosperity to Pakistan.

It need not be all doom and gloom always. After the interim government has come into power, they seem to be fixing some glaring economic issues with the result that exchange rate has improved and inflation has started coming down. If this type of tough love is taken on power pilfering, corruption, tax cheating etc., things may start looking up. The finance minister has hinted Pakistan may default in the coming year. That will concentrate the mind among all stakeholders and hopefully create a positive future.

No sir, we don't want POJK (not in its current demographic form). A bit different though, if its GB we are talking.

As for CPEC, mubarak ho.

Good. I don't want to hear your countrymen pleading for Kashmir from now on.

Yes, we are very happy with CPEC and China as a trustworthy ally. Thanks.

@indushek Don't laught it off. I am serious .

Problem is that, not everyone (it included me till very recently) looks at map. Has idea on demographics etc as well.

So my countrymen will keep harping on return on POJK, but then better informed will ask for just GB.

Am sure you can put up with that

Congrats on the bonhomie bro, you two gel really well.

1. Discard constitution. It no longer has any value.
2. Disband judiciary for obvious reasons. Form new judicial system, with fresh young judges recruited from young lawyers after thorough screening. Their bank accounts are monitored and phones tapped.
3. Disband parliament. What purpose does it serve?
4. One-man rule for 8-10 years, call it presidential system whatever.

5. Document informal economy, all transactions must be recorded otherwise reported
6. Tax all real estate and retailers. If anyone protests, jail them and confiscate their assets.
7. Tax doctors, lawyers, salons, restaurants, small business. Look at bank accounts & purchase history
8. Get rid of PKR 1000 and PKR 5000 notes. In the US, we have up to $100 bill to prevent money laundering. Why does Pakistan have 5000 currency notes?

9. Ban all imports except raw materials needed for manufacturing exports.
10. All food imports must be grown inside the country or replaced with locally produced alternative

11. Ban all local investment into real estate, which is the most unproductive sector. One man cannot have more than one house.
12. Any wealthy individual will be taxed at high rate on business income unless he invests that income in productive sector like manufacturing, agriculture, or IT.
13. Ban outward transfer of money or remittances for locals.
#11,12,13 will forcibly redirect investment into productivity

14. To prevent brain drain, ban outward migration. Running away means problem never gets solved

15. Build public school system with curriculum modeled on western education curriculums. No more experimenting on what works. American education system works. Full stop.
16. Develop standardized testing like SAT for nation, which forms basis for admission into universities
17. Public schools will be built everyplace practical with the same single curriculum and standardized tests. Private schools must follow this curriculum and tests.

18. Government sponsored universities akin to the Indian IIT must be created in every province. Only the top, filtered out by standardized testing, can gain admission here.
19. HEC needs to be reconstituted with only foreign staff to monitor standards and accreditation.

20. Vocational training schools should be established everywhere, especially in less developed provinces. Training should be focused on manufacturing, machine tooling, skilled labor.
21. Single website and database of all graduates from vocational schools will be setup to match these graduates with manufacturing jobs. All manufacturers must be synchronized with this system.
22. This website or job portal can extend to all fields of employment

23. Startup and entrepreneur culture must be encouraged. Government can provide funds, interest-free loans, management experience in exchange for partial ownership through sovereign fund.
24. No outward remittances for any Pakistani investors will be allowed.

25. Government can lease tracts of lands to young farmers willing to cultivate & grow essential imported food items. This will reduce food imports.

26. Feudal lord class must be destroyed. This includes Sardars of Balochistan and Waderas of Sindh. They can be given two options:
A) Roll out red carpet treatment and give them handsome cash payment to release their claims on land and people, move into cities, and be banned from politics. All serfs are freed and educated to contribute to society.
B) Go to jail and potentially be executed

27. Build free apartment housing for impoverished of Balochistan, FATA, and interior Sindh.
28. All tenants will have one year of free electricity, water, heating.
29. All work-capable tenants must be enrolled in vocational training schools and employed after a year so they can pay their bills.

30. Government must encourage creation of strategic industries. This includes steel, manufacturing of heavy equipment, appliances, electronics, ships, cars, aerospace, etc. This means Pakistan can no longer import these.
31. The corporate investors must be encouraged to invest in these fields with a clear 5 year road map on 100% localization of manufacturing and R&D. If they want their income to escape taxes, they can participate in this plan.
32. All foreign investment that touches these strategic industries must partner with a local Pakistani company to manufacture these inside of Pakistan.
33. The local partners must work on transfer of technology partnership And they must recruit engineers from local universities.

34. All police officers, unless critically renowned for good conduct, are replaced with young recruits.
35. Commissioners must be young and educated.
36. Forensic labs are established everywhere.

37. Provinces are split up no geographic names and ethnic references are removed.
38. Local government is established in cities, which fall outside purview of provinces.
