Guys I have been reading and watching up on this and believe the main reason that the Jews won the war was that their tanks had a main gun that could fire accurately at longer range.
The best tank that the Arabs had was the T-62 which had a 115mm smoothbore gun that could fire accurately up to 1500m, whereas most Jewish tanks had the 105 mm rifled gun that was able to fire accurately at 2000m.
The "Valley of Tears" was a major illustration of how tank gun range made the decisive difference when 100 Jewish tanks were able to defeat 500 Arab tanks. Simply the Arab tanks got hit before they were in firing range.
If the Russians had supplied the T-64, that had a 125mm smoothbore gun, then the war would have turned out massively different.
What are your thoughts?
I don't know where you get your data. First , the t-62 had a range of 4 miles not 1500m and it did not fall much behind israeli tanks mot to mention that they had a lot more of them. At the beginning stages of the war in the northern front at some places they outnumbered the israeli tanks 1-10
Second the Arabs armies had an advantage in many other weapons starting from the personal weapon the ak-47 compared to the israeli UZi or FN.
They also had a huge advantage in night vision instruments that all there tanks where equipped with , while israel had non.
Other areas the Arab armies had an advantage was the new missile systems provided by the Soviets - from thousands of anti tank Sager missiles that israel had nothing to match it to the Large quantity of air defence missiles that countered israel air superiority .
This are just a few examples where the Arab countries had an advantage in weapon systems.
The reason Syria and Egypt lost the war is not lack of modern weapons.
