Chinese Government mouthpiece “Global Times” recently warned India against providing Vietnam with Akash Surface to Air Missiles which can take down Aerial targets up to a range of 25kms. Akash Air defence system is not a Game Changer missile system which can tilt a war in favour of Vietnam but outburst from China seems to be pointing towards what is suppose to come next, that is possible sale of other missile systems like BrahMos.
Vietnam for long has been interested in BrahMos Jointly developed by India and Russia. Supersonic BrahMos due to its sheer speed and S manoeuvre at Mach 2.8 has dominated every Air defence system, which literally means missile system is unstoppable, but India has taken upon its self to make it, even more, deadlier which is making China nervous about.
BrahMos Block III with trajectory manoeuvre and 75 degrees steep-dive capabilities can take out military infrastructures in hidden mountain terrains. Block III variant is called China Centric due to vast India-China border which mostly is of difficult mountain terrains.
India is also working on Block III + or Block IV which will have better 90-degree steep-dive capabilities but this capability is been further explored not to take out targets in mountain terrain but to take down large warships like an aircraft carrier in the middle of the ocean.
BrahMos Block III + or Block IV is particularly has been the centre of debate in Chinese Think Tank Circle, who are alarmed about the missile’s capabilities. Chinese Think Tank have admitted that they see this variant which can take out or at least disable a Aircraft Carrier battle Group can bring down the morale of its forces in any possible conflict in South China sea or in the Indian ocean.
In Vietnamese Navy’s hands, BrahMos could neutralise Chinese Naval firepower to an extent that it can push back any aggressive forces. BrahMos also have enough firepower to take down most secured warships in the area of conflict, which could force China to be defensive in areas where BrahMos are deployed.
