Post independence, Jawaharlal Nehru’s India faced humiliating defeat against the Chinese forces. Not only it was embarrassing but also a strong reminder how the hopelessness of Indian politicians who were poor strategists, especially against the mighty Chinese.

In all these years, the Congress Party, as well as the Gandhi family, dismissed the true fact that Jawaharlal Nehru was solely responsible for India’s defeat in 1962.

Very recently, top-secret military classified documents in Henderson Brooks report exposed the role of Jawaharlal Nehru categorically in the huge debacle. Anyhow, there is no question of credibility of Henderson Brooks, who was the Commanding Officer in the western front. Lieutenant Henderson Brooks submitted the review as Army Chief JN Choudhari ordered him to do so.

The documents clearly reveal that the Chinese forces strengthened their position in Tibet and Indian border prior to the face off. This gives the Chinese an added advantage even before the Indians could proceed with their own foundation in the border.

Jawaharlal Nehru’s flawed ‘Forward Policy’ didn’t help the cause of the Indian Army and it was indeed a hara-kiri to go ahead with the direct military operation against the mighty Chinese. The flawed Nehruvian tactics of deploying heavy troops and patrolling teams in the border antagonized the Chinese and there was no looking back after that.

Most, unfortunately, the central government under Jawaharlal Nehru and the military think tank failed to come up with a feasible solution via the diplomatic channel and that resulted in great despair.

The most unfortunate aspect of the 1962 war is that Jawaharlal Nehru was the sole reason behind the number of casualties. The aggressive attitude of the erstwhile Indian government without proper dynamics of the military perspective didn’t help to tackle the situation at all.

The 7 Infantry Brigade was pushed in without specific arrangements. It is still shocking to know that the Jawaharlal Nehru government was absolutely sure that the Chinese won’t opt for military retaliation and thus the debacle was more a Heartbreaking one for the Indians.

Anyhow, without any confusion, it can be clearly stated that Jawaharlal Nehru has to be blamed for the biggest embarrassment of the Indian Army jawans.

. . .
India lost war due to under estimating Chinese response.... a bad move from India and Nehru. Indians don't have any qualms in accepting a truth... acceptance is the first step towards self development. Hope Pakistan also realises the power of acceptance.

.
India did not loose in 1962. They managed to hold on to whatever territory they could. That is a partial success.

.
maybe because they didn't have 70 million Bengalis to fight against China and Chinese were also not outnumbered by 1: 50

No bad move but baniya's intelligence since they clearly knew that they are going to loose but they initiated the war to get sympathy from west especially US and Russia to get aid more weapons and portray China as aggressor.

Lol by that logic Pakistan should have more weapon since they lost more wars and US was always your ally...but as I said above, accepting the reality is not every states' policy. You still belive things like you won all the wars against India, Kasab was Amar singh, Pakistan soldiers on LOC are immune to Kafir Indian bullets, etc, to count a few. :)

Many more numbers of Chinese killed. Mao least bothered about human life of the Chinese. Nehru was more of peace loving person.

And there was no air force or navy used while we had latest ships and aircrafts from Brits and USSR and China had none.

Failure is failure,Excuse shows nothing but how ignorant and hypocritical you are

The only reason India lose the war is: It is India invaded China for its Forward policy.
This war was started by india,Dont try to deny it.

Interesting but I think it misses out on the Chinese perspective.

It's true that Nehre was convinced that China would not militarily respond and his forward policy led to the border war. Nehru was arrogant but he was not stupid. Given the internal and external situaton at the time China was indeed not at all inclined to take on India militarily. This emboldend Nehru and his advisors. So they kept pushing. Finally China decided that the only way to put a stop to all this BS was to teach the Indians a lesson.

As for the Indian army, Indian soldiers could put up a fight behind fortified positions and their marksmanship was pretty good. Once flushed out of their trenches and bunkers Indians were pretty much worthless.
