Why did BNP sabotage the modernisation of BD airforce?

its not unusual for govts in subcontinent to reverse decision of previous regime, just based on political reason, so that they take the credit... projects get cancelled many times after new regime comes
it will be sabotage if bnp specifically wants to weaken the airforce... it can be adequately explained as normal behavior in subcontinent politics.

no offense but I find it hard to believe any bangladeshi account, they use too much hyperbole, one would assume they would be the best in advt world.

Your choice but no one else will give better idea than a Bangladeshi and defence matters highly secretive.

Why BNP sabotaged BAF?

Because that would be doing something exactly against BAL decisions. Remember when they elect for power both of our political parties decided to do exactly 180 degree opposite of the previous government.

Your argument would hold water if the BNP did order planes from another source but it did not. At the least Awami League has brought the F7-BG1 , which is modernised as much as that plane can be and has also purchased the YAK-130 which can be used as a sub-sonic fourth generation fighter.

Also I have already proved that they buy way less arms than Awami League when in power. They brought less in 2002-2007 compared to Awami-League in 1996-2001 and the economy was much larger in BNP's term!

Interests of the party over the interests of the nation.

Very immature politics that has harmed BD immensely.

In some ways, it is good that Awami League has a 2nd term to complete their projects.

BNP defense related decisions were very poor. The rational was to keep the military weak and under control and damn the national interest. the corruption went right to the top and they wanted new round of kickbacks. it is not far fetched to term some of the decisions as anything but treasonous.

BNP talked a lot but apart from the economy they lacked vision and cohesive policy in other areas. BAL has done more from a defence perspective than BNP without doubt, however their other policies have polarised and fractured our society and have killed democracy that will take great level of social upheavals and generations to mend.

If you look at BD arms imports from 1996-2015:

Awami League(97-2001) = 679 million dollars
BNP (2002-2007) = 400 million dollars
Awami League(2010-2015 = 2117 million dollars

It is clear that BNP does not like to spend money on buying weapons and just talks about being a nationalist party when it's actions indicate that it is not really.

I would much rather BD had 32 Mig-29s and cut the number of troops by 50,000 to pay for this. No point having a large army that is being mercilessly bombed by the enemy.

Clearly says what BNP needs todo. BNP should Compete to cross AL's defence procurement capacity. Both party need to prove who is more interested to bolster defense capacity. Fortunately/Unfortunately AL is way ahead. :)
