THAAD is the best effective-cost choice for Korean after they rejected costly SM-3.

The new SM-3 capabilities are :
Operational range Block IIA ~2500 km (1350 nautical miles)
Flight ceiling Block IIA ~1500 km (933 miles)
Speed Block IIA ~4.5 km/s

SM-3 even better, lighter, cheaper ... than S-500.
They ranked S-500 between THAAD and SM-3

Instead of S-400, if it's possible ... I voted for THAAD ( to Vietnam )

If we talk about hand to hand combat, i will put my bet on NK but on modern high tech warfare I put my bet on US 30K..not to mention that you have SK army as backup...But if China do as US did with their allies such as if we share intelligent with NK regarding US and SK deployments, location, capabilities and provide NK generals with the real time update of the battlefield, NK army will not be the headless chicken and you won't have a flawless victory as in Iraq war.

Up until now China has not done anything against US interest but reversely US is sharing intelligent with Japan, Autralia and even India regarding our Subs activities and other security issue...but don't exclude the we're not capable to return US the same favor.

Yeah, but those troops are just basically a tripwire though right? I mean, no way they obviously could stand up to a million man army onslaught. basically USA's way (tripwire) of letting NK know that an attack on them would automatically bring the US into a conflict.

Yep, the 30k in South Korea can easily summon a few more men from Guam, Japan, and the US mainland - Europe if things get ugly. 30k seems small, until you realize that with those men is a radio, and ever military man or women knows that a radio is the most dangerous weapon of them all. On the other end of a radio is artillery, reinforcements or fire-support. These men and women are not alone, just forward deployed.

30k is just to keep the peace, if war does happen 30k will swell to whatever is needed.
