Why 7-Eleven Failed In Indonesia

Yup in Jakarta we have plenty streetfood, and Today we have even the expensive ones, with the price same like Western brand like KFC or McDonald.

We also have many local restaurant and in Indonesia Padang restaurant from West Sumatran are dominating, they are every where....he he. I just need to walk to get them and not even one, but three located near by he he.

You can buy food with chicken with 1 1/2 Dollar

Man - nasi goreng was my fav plus beef rendang. you are right, there was one street; there was an old lady making fried chicken - delicious.

I found people serve food that is not warm. is there a reason why?

When i was in a restaurant with my colleagues; they brought plates and we chose what we wanted but food was not warm.

I always prefer to eat in local brands. When I'm abroad and i see a foreign brand i haven't tried, i will try it (the halal versions) but generally i find local places always better. My local kebab shop does better pizza than any of the UK brands hands down. Similarly for burgers - although i think KFC do the best fried chicken.

When in Pakistan i always like to try the busy local places, you see so many new experiences. I had the most amazing Tangine in Casablanca in a little side alley near the touristy old markets. The place looked terrible, it had plastic garden chairs for seating, but the food was amazing and cheap too.

This is part of the experience of travel.

For nasi goreng usually Indonesian can make it at home, but it is more convenience to buy it from professional street food seler.

Nasi goreng seler come up at night while bubur ayam every morning he he.

I only eat at fancy restaurant if hang out with friend in Mall, although many fancy restaurants or sellers are lokal brands, But if my friends come to my place, I will always buy Padang food for them and me he he

Padang food is actually not warm, they cook it in the morning and sell it until night.

My best friend whose parents from West Sumatra like me also has Padang restaurant. Many sells is now generated from Gojekfood, from my friend experience online sales from Gojek reach 60 persen of sales

Yup there is kind of that restaurant, usually they have many kind of food to pick. You can find it in office building and also in small restaurant in the street. It is usually cheap, cheaper than Padang restaurant and they are many as well across Java at least, these are usually owned by Madurese people while Padang restaurants owners are dominated by Minang (West Sumatran)

The one you see in office building is ofcourse more expensive and the type of food is a bit different.

Hey @Gomig-21 what's your take on 7-11?
I noticed the other day the one in Allston near the Harvard Stadium has closed. I can't say I have been in them much as it is basically the same as walking into a little gas station mart.

Edit: Wow...looking at the map there still seems to be many around. I guess they are low profile.

Yeah I don't frequent them much except if there is one on the way home from a project that also has a gas station and I need to fill up, I might head in for a pack of smokes or a Twiks or soda. The one on Mass Ave. in Cambridge is the last one I've been in about a year ago. Also had a couple of the burrito dogs on the roll but that one is clean and closed off to any flies lol.

I've eaten street meat in Mexico (horse I think...hopefully not rat) and I won't even go near 7-11 food under the glass near the rollers.

In the US, 7 Eleven is something which I never visit, even by mistake. Their gasoline is of no good quality either. Coffee is horrible. WaWa killed them in the US in the East Coast. If you go to any 7 Eleven in the East coast , it is mostly run by a south asian.

WaWa is flat out awesome IMO

I did used to like 7-Eleven when I was younger because of big gulps and their burritos.
