Define greatness.
Yes. They were not true to the Religion. Although I would say this, that once the Turkic tribes embraced Islam, their oppressive sword became somewhat blunted....due to the merciful fragrance of the Religion...Majority of them were thugs and thieves.
Only ruler/darwash who brought sea of change in Sub continent were the migrated family of Holy Prophet PBUH.. who brought Sufism .

Very well. Personally Tipu Sultan holds some sway over me, the way he fought. A tragedy even.It depends.. That is why I asked to state "Why?"
For some it could be someone like Shahjahan who built great structures, for some it could be Akbar who brought religious harmony, for some it count be Aurangzeb who ruled the most part of the subcontinent, for some it could be Muḥammad ibn Qāsim who was the first Islamic ruler of the subcontinent, for some it could be Tipu Sultan who fought against the British etc.

Yes they did...and can you imagine if the had not and then came to (Subcontinent) India....?I thought the Turkic tribes had already embraced Islam even before they came to the subcontinent.
Khilji, one of the few rulers in the world who had the capability to defeat mongol hordes.
And Akbar.

You mean co terminous Afghans...khiljis were afghans.
Great ..please tell that Modi and co....Timur thought that Delhi Sultanate was not harsh enough.
I will never blame religion for the crimes committed by the rulers even it they were committed in the name of religion.

Is is not interesting that so many invasions of co terminous Bharat have been launched from co-terminous Afghanistan and yet today Bharat is an ally of Afghanistan...?
Well hopefully more Bharatis think like you....it seems that it is going the other way...I know that but technically Khaljis were also Turks but migrated to subcontinent much before the Turks of the Slave Dynasty.
I am not his personal secretary.
