What's new

Which is the oldest muslim cemetry in indian subcontinent

. .
so what..where is its connection to the past its popular for.. another legend...
My fault. I should have spelt it out carefully, considering I m addressing a lawyer.

This is a mosque that is thought to be perhaps the second oldest mosque whose existence is recorded. It is still in use.

.
IT's sad though
We are a land starved country. Not much space for graves. Construction and redevelopment is happening all the time. Places get dug up. Secondly, we don't do much record keeping of our ancestors therefore after a point no one cares where previous generations were buried. No one visits and the sites are forgotten

.
the topic is about earliest graveyard not mosque..
and whats the point in bringing in a something not proven so far..
kerala structure you folks are talking about is suspected to be a mosque... it could have been anything..

They'll start digging for murtis in that mosque and start claiming it be an ancient temple

See the logical explanation is , turks etc used local workmen for their tombs initially .
Like in the mehruli acropolis or in sultan garhi on Delhi, hence the architecture was like older hindu architecture which is not seen in later sultante tombs of khiljis or sayiids and grander mughal monuments like tajmahal down the line in history.
Now those who want to do politics , they do
Hum kya hi karein isme

Mosques from those times dont look like a 18th century structure

but more like this..

the bhanbhore site’s surface remains represent the best preserved early Islamic urban form in South Asia and the region’s best preserved medieval port.
It has been recognized as oldest mosque in south asia by UNESCO..
This was a major muslim city of south Asia back then infact the first one...Cheraman and outher indian sites need to prove their case..

All I am saying is that if there were Muslims living there at that time, they would be dying too, and would be needing graveyards. Whether these are still there or not, I don't know. But I get it, OP is asking for ones still intact.

In delhi many places are haunted
Just myths/legends/tall tales...
...in my younger days, I was also curious about seeing such things...

...visited supposedly haunted places, never saw anything.
...lost a bet once with my friends...spent a night in a graveyard due to that...never saw anything.
...used a Ouija board with a group of friends...nothing happened.
No ghost or spirit ever came after me...nor haunted me in any way. Either those stories about them are tall tales...or I'm really not liked by the supernatural beings.

They need to prove nothing; this is not a competition. There are no prizes to be won. There are no insecure egos to be stroked. For your information, the most recent repairs to the mosque happened only recently; it was not left as a heap of stones but embellished over the centuries as and when it was deemed necessary.

Are you making list for demolishing or what?
Nothing, much i was just curious.
Basically i wanted to know more about graves of common folks like soldiers etc how they exist etc
It was good to ask, got some insights
Will try to update this thread if in future I get any info etc

Should you not be asking him to correct it as South Asia? Or do ypu like being trapped in Indian narrative?
What's wrong with Indian subcontinent though? It's the name of a geographic region. There's also Indian ocean and regions named after other countries right?
