Obviously sub machine gun, its lighter and quicker to aim through the barrell, and does the same amount of damage normally.

Even if your targets are wearing body armour ?

What if a situation arises where you need to engage targets beyond 100m ?

Police entry teams are ditching their 9mm subguns like the MP-5 and adopting rifle caliber weapons. There's little difference in size and weight and a huge difference in power. The body armor issue is big with them. More and more bad guys are wearing it. A light kevlar vest can stop a 9mm, but doesn't stand a chance vs. 5.56mm or 7.62mm.

True and most SOFs use carbines as their standard weapons so they can be used in CQB and conventional fighting. US army SOF use M4 carbine IA SOFs use TAR-21. Ideal for both situations.

When i was in muree, about 2 years back, a notification came that all the sentry's and MP's should replace their MP-5 with the Type 56 rifles, and this was because of the evaluation that the TTP and such will use Bulletproof jackets , and the 9mm does not penetrate from 100 m.

So, yeah, i would prefer a Carbine. But P90 and MP-7 are really hot looking subs.

It all depends on whom you ask that question. An infantry soldier, a soldier from a mechanised/armoured formation, a soldier from a combat support arm, a policeman, a gangster all have different requirements and preferences.
Any soldier armed and equipped for conventional battle would prefer an assault rifle with adequate stopping power, a decent effective range of at least 300 meters, reasonable accuracy and one which is also not very heavy to carry. He would also like a rifle which can fire small bursts or single shots so he can conserve ammunition since he can only use the ammunition he can carry on his back. He would like a rifle which is rugged and does not need too much maintenance. A 30 round magazine gives him more options than a 20 round one. Seldom will such a soldier encounter an enemy wearing body amrour. In a conventional war soldiers do not wear body armour. But even in a conventional army, there are soldiers who carry greater load than others, these are the radio operators, those carrying crew served weapons, mortar tripods etc. These people could well do with personal weapons which are much lighter. At the same time, snipers, who are a part of an infantry platoon, would not be interested in either of your weapons.
Soldiers operating on special missions will be armed and kitted in a manner that is best suited for the operations. Soldiers working within the close confines of a tank or an APC need smaller weapons with shorter barrels. Soldiers further back in the tactical battle area and those undertaking mainly logistic or combat support roles can make do with smaller and lighter personal weapons.

Now, the policeman. His requirements are totally different. He is dealing with criminals and crooks and has to be equipped to beat his adversary.

The gangster? No doubts there. The SMG is the weapon of choice of the gangsters and drug gangs where 'shoot and scoot' is all that matters.

To summarise, the weapon should match the mission. That is, if one has left his childhood fantasies with guns and GI Joe behind.

Depending on the situation though, in crowded urban area, high powered rifle/carbine bullets may contribute to more collateral damage. However carbines may be the best compromise between fire power, portability and versatility among the pros.

There's only one Gun that I really want and that's this bad boy:

It is also the most successful and most widely used assault rifle in history. Throw it into a mountain stream with fast flowing water running over big boulders. Fish it out after 6 months, load and fire. It will fire like nothing happened to it. Shatters the kevlar plate of a NATO bullet proof jacket at 300 meters. Have to be very light on the trigger though as the magazine empties out real fast, does not have a 3 round burst option. Not terribly accurate, it will do the job though, but then it was never made for snipers. Makes a nice flat crack when fired, the bullet travels nearly as fast as sound so if you hear it you can afford to smile because it did not hit you .

SMGs are suitable for vehicle crews.

Carbines like the CAR-15 & M-4 were designed with tank, artillery crews in mind

The size of an G-36C is even smaller than a regular MP-5

In our area shooting comps are held...where a coin is placed on a high place and marksmen have to shoot it with an AK or a two knot two..
