What state in India does what best?

.
I have visited few states and experienced many things :

Gujarat :
Sugar in whatever you eat starting from dal() to Vegetable(sabji). Mad about Garba and Modi :agree:. They all have some business idea.

Kerala : Don't speak in Hindi or else the ricksaw fare will go from 50/- to 150/- and you'll never know why. Coconut oil in every cuisine:sick:. Good Beaches. Too many people in Lungi :D.

U.P : People here think they know politics but actually they suck :D, they only cast vote to candidate from their cast.

TamilNadu : Once again ricksaw fare was too high for Hindi speakers. Kanyakumari beach was full of $hits on the seashore:D.

Its true about Hindi speakers in deep south. But not just Hindi, they will rip you off a lot as long as they see you are not from the area. At least now there is more competition in the bigger cities from other modes of transport. I remember back in the day (before call taxi boom arrived), these knuckleheads would try overcharge my dad even though he speaks perfect Tamil from the area....coz they could tell he is some soft NRI guy.

Bangalore I remember back then was much better regarding this, their autowallahs always used their meter, period. Coimbatore it was just an ornament and joke if you brought it up. Haggle when you get in and haggle when you get out if the guy was a douche. Wonder if this stuff has changed, havent been back home in so long.

Tamil Nadu Gov is very best in Giving away free stuffs and ending up bankrupt :lol:

Very true! But we have industrialised and developed probably more than any other state despite this. Its because all said and done, the bureaucracy in TN is fairly competent compared to most States.

This place looks like something straight from the world of Prince of Persia :woot::)

Let me tell you the history behind Gurgaon, also known as Milliniom City because it was developed in late 1990s and grew rapidly in 2000s

In 1980s Gurgaon was a mid sized Village known for Sugarcane Farming
It was also home to one On Prakash Chautala a Bahubali Farmer leader of INLD a political party and Rival of Congress in Haryana, who had several 100 acres of Land in Gurgaon

In the After math of Kargil war, he rode the BJP wave and grabbed Power in Haryana with their support
And he went on with pouring all his states money in development of his constituency of Gurgaon
During the tech boom of Early 2000 he invited several MNCs to invest in Gurgaon mainly due to its proximity to Delhi
He also made deals with one Kushan Pal Singh to develop Gurgaon into a high tech City

Now if you guys don't know
Kushan Pal Singh's company is Called DLF, responsible for 70% construction in Gurgaon
Which at its height in 2011, was the biggest construction company in whole of Asia,

All thanks to its work in Gurgaon and cheap loan from Haryana State government HSIIDC

All this development led to massive jump in real estate prices in Gurgaon
And the price of Chautala's Land went up by 100 times
Which he ended up cashing by selling to DLF

However BJP wave ended up fissling out in 2004 and he lost power to Congress in 2005

Which finally put him in jail in 2008 on account of corruption charges and miss management of State funds.

But his legacy stands
With Haryana a predominantly Agricultural state now home to a city which is Number 2 in Information Technology and Financial Services in India
And has the highest per capita concentration of wealth in the country.

No one can tell that, until people of India change their thought. There is a section of population in the country which still thinks that governments are supposed to provide them free food and shelter, and such thought should end or else will be not move ahead.

True these are fans of Kejri who can vote even Osama to get things in free. Jobs in India are increasing, they really don't care.
One of my classmate is in same league. He called Kejriwal
in Delhi.
I asked what work he did,
He provided water and electricity in free he replied.
I didn't reply anything and was sad all day, what sort of people are there in my country.

Bro wheres your source for the poverty data?

BTW Literacy rate could be even higher....could be 80% now. 75% is like the lower end value.

They want 10 Lack packages with perks , from the start . So most of the them end up without jobs .

Well your friend has his view, but it has to change. Everyone in the country is equal, if government starts providing free food to street beggars then they will never work coz they are getting food, this will never uplift the poors. Same thing is happening when we talk about Reservation system, there are families I have seen in which starting from grand father, father to son everyone is benefited from reservation, but they never thought about the poor one from their own community who are left out from the benefits. And this kind of people actually have no self respect, but there are also student who even after belonging to SC/ST caste have actually took admission on their merit.

In short, Everyone wants change in the country but nobody wants to change themself.

From Box 2:

Box 2 Why poverty in India could be even lower

Poverty measures for India are based on the household expenditure surveys done as part of the National Sample Surveys (NSS). Since NSS began in the 1950s, it has used 30-day recall for consumption of both food and nonfood items to measure expenditures. These so-called “uniform reference period” (URP) consumption aggregates collected in every consumption survey (except 1999/2000) provide the longest consistent series for measuring poverty in India. Historically, these have been the basis of the World Bank’s poverty estimates for India at the international poverty line.

Since 2015 is the target year for the Millennium Development Goals, the assessment of changes in poverty over time is best based on the URP method, which was used to set the baseline poverty rates for India in 1990. For 2011/12, India’s poverty rate using URP-based consumption was 21.2 percent.

The National Sample Survey Organization introduced a new consumption series based on a “modified mixed reference period” (MMRP) in the 2009/10 survey. The MMRP series (which modified the 30-day recall to a 7-day recall for some food items and to a 1-year recall for low-frequency nonfood consumption items) was recommended as a more accurate reflection of consumption expenditures, following experimental rounds to examine non-sampling errors.a As a result of the shorter recall period for food items, MMRP-based consumption expenditures in both rural and urban areas are 10–12 percent larger than URP-based aggregates. These higher expenditures, combined with a high population density around the poverty line, translates to a significantly lower poverty rate of 12.4 percent for 2011/12.

The MMRP, which is available from 2009/10 onward, is expected to be the consumption aggregate of choice for monitoring poverty in the future. This year’s MMRP-based estimate of 12.4 percent will set the baseline for future India and global poverty estimates, one consequence of which will be a break in the global series.

End note: a MMRP is a modified version of the Mixed Reference Period (MRP), which has used two recall periods, 30 days for some items and 365 for others; the NSS consumption surveys have used these two recall periods since the early 1990s.

=======================

No one can claim Modi magic for this, since the method was first introduced in 2009/2010. Looks like Indian absolute poverty will soon hit single digits...it may already have since 12.4% was for 2011/2012.

Now the main focus must of course be to get low income (but no longer absolutely poor) people to transition into lower middle income and middle income....just like China managed in the 2000s. I am very optimistic this can happen in the coming decade and propel India to a 5 trillion dollar nominal economy.
