I fully know this is a very sensitive topic, but I have always wondered if it was erroneous of Pakistani Army to surrender to India with 90,000 strong troops.

Was the lack of logistics the only reason for such a huge surrender, or was there improper planning?

After 65 war what was the pakistani doctrine to defend East pakistan in case of war with india?

Were pakistanis in anyway prepared to protect east pakistan at that period.?

what were major failures of india in 1971 conflict?

what were major failures of pakistan in 1971 conflict?

please do not flame or troll this issue.

i read somewhere and also heard this from senior army officers serving adn retired that niazi was a course mate of the indian chief and they were best buddies like i am with my neghbour.....so when the indian chief asked niazi to surrender....niazi calmly talked with him like he was still a course mate adn not the opponent in war...adn that along with other factors like logistics adn such caused east pakistan to fall......and i think that it was good in a way....because no pakistani officer would have wanted to be posted to east pakistan!!!

First of all, get the figures corrected, the number of troops was not 90K, it was less then 80K figure, around 77K and the rest of the figure was of civilians. which made a total of somewhere around 93K.

Anyway, we have lot of other threads which have discussed this topic to the end, kindly search for those. No need to start another of the topic which has been repeated dozens of time.
