Okay.. So this question came up and I feel obliged to write the answer as I have faced so much discrimination all my life . I'll explain how much I was disriminated, for being muslim at every point of life in this intolerant country.
Early 2000s: A lower primary student, quite smart and short for age. A guy of same age, Ashish, quite built for that age comes to me and shares his food. Can you believe this? How can that intolerant jerk do that instead of bullying me for being only muslim in class and in school with 95% of students and staff hindu.
2012:I'm in 10th standard now, another kid of our school, Akhil, with his mother runs into me in the super market where they happen to see me by chance. They are very angry indeed.I was going on saying sorry, they weren't in a position to listen. They kidnapped me, took me with them to their home and you know what his mum said "Itna bolne k bad b tu diwali ko ghar nahi aaya, abi kha tere hisse ki mithai, poora khatam karna" Translation: "Even after intimating so many times, you didn't showed up for Diwali. You have got to finish all these sweets, now." See, how outrageous it is! Yes you guessed it right. They discriminated me and also tried ghar wapasi on me.Such hypocrites, tried to lure me with sweets and crackers.
2014: Graduation :A hindu college again, pure marwari this time. Every Friday, from 1-2 p.m I was given attendance even for not attending that class because I needed to attend Jumah prayer. Don't you see the discrimination?
I was elected as the representative of the college though entire mandate was hindu. Bloody Religious feeling everywhere. Huh!
I danced like there is no tomorrow with my hindu friends during Ganesh Nimarjan in our society , 'ghar wapised' may be :p
2015: I joined for internship at a very 'big' organization. So big were its policies in relation to leaves. It was just 15 days since we joined and bakrid was the next day. The Window for selecting the optional off had expired before we could understand the organization and it's leave application protocol etc. So 4 of us muslims in a team of 70 interns went to manager to request for the leave. We were still under training. So manager said that we can't grant leave individually. If it's going to be an off, then whole batch of interns i.e; 70 people will have to go for off and it will be deducted from total leaves. We were disheartened and we obviously knew that it is very stupid to ask someone to forgo their leave for something that didn't even mattered them.We thought it's fine we can come tomorrow, as the office is in the evening, we can manage. Some how our team of other 66 interns came to know about this, they talked with the manager without our knowledge and guess what? They sacrificed their leave so that we 4 could spend time with our families on festival.See how they conspired, bloody religious zealots ! They planned to bankrupt me by asking for "shirkhurma". This kind of discrimination is surely unacceptable in a secular country like Banana Republic .But in India, let india be submerged in this discrimination and intolerance for eternity.

Awwww
Thats a cute diary entry.
I am sure 70% of the muslims in the country will have similar things to say about India.

I think we should stop shouting from roof tops that india isnt an intolerant country. We are and we have been one of the most tolerant countries ever. :)

1. In case of war between India and Pakistan which country would you support?

2. Do you support the armed forces of your country?

3. Do you think of Islamic rulers as heros or villains?

4. Do you wish you were born in Muslim country?

5. Do you respect Indian religion and culture?

6. Do you consider yourself as an Indian?

7. Do you speak against terrorism or do you emotionally support them?

These are the most common questions faced by Muslims in India. But some of these questions are also applicable to other minorities in India.

Buddy which part of India are you from?

Well I feel we the people of the both countries have soft corner for each other. It's the government developing hate and maybe few extremists groups are spreading violence based on religion. Happy to read it. :)

Yes you should do that and accept that you are one, an intolerant country. If Muslims were not ever facing any discrimination in India then the poet whose poem "Tarana e Hindi" you have quoted in your signature,

"Yunan-o-Misr-o-Roma Sab Mit Gaye Jahan Se, Ab Tak Magar Hai Baki Naam-o-Nishan Hamara, Kuchh Baat Hai Ke Hasti Mit'ti Nahin Hamari, Sadiyon Raha Hai Dushman Daur-e-Zaman Hamara.
Sare Jahan Se Acha HINDUSTAN HAMARA"

would not have changed his mind a decade later and wrote "Tarana e Milli'

"Cheen o Arab Hamara Hindustan Hamara, Muslim Hein Hum Watan Hai Sara Jahan Hamara, Toheed Ki Amanat Seenon Mein Hai Hamare, Assan Nahi Mitana Namo Nishan Hamara.

Batil se Dabnay Walay Aye Asman Nahi Hum, So Bar Ker Chuka Hai Tu Imtehan Hamara"

He would not have envisioned a separate Muslim state in the north west of India, and you and I would not be discussing this on a forum called defence.PK and would rather be trolling together our northern neighbors in Sino Defense Forums.

India is hardly the worst place for the minorities, in fact it is far better place when you compare it with a lot of countries of the region, but saying it is a completely tolerant society well that's just absurd.

My estimate is 80 percent muslim face some discrimination or other, this guy is just one of few who dont due to social status(upper middle class). Both the account(this guy and the lady that wrote something similar) almost expect hindus to be evil to them and are too happy when hindus behave with slightest of kindness.

As SRK seems to have said: 'The day you dont have to point out that khans are successful despite being muslim, that day you got true secularism' (or something similar)

I will not deny that.
Yes, back in pre-independence era muslims were treated worst than the lower castes of hindus. But this was limited to a certain region or section.
I am sure Jinnah's rise in India contradicts this fact.

Thank you.
I know you're being honest there.
but saying it is a completely tolerant society well that's just absurd

A completely tolerant society will be an ideal society and we do not live in an ideal world.
To err is human.
Our country is tolerant when compared to a lot of other countries. I claimed that our's has been one of the most tolerant countries in the world. :)

80% is an exaggeration.
Have your ever lived in India?

'The day you dont have to point out that khans are successful despite being muslim, that day you got true secularism' (or something similar)
They something similar about Kapoors too. Btw Kapoors are not muslims.

it is actually closer to 100 percent, nearly every muslim who has dealt with a govt agency would have faced some discrimination or other.
Come on, you seriously think I have not lived in India, lol.
I would let muslims answer it, honestly, without hyphenating with pakistan.

They something similar about Kapoors too. Btw Kapoors are not muslims.
I did not understand what has kapoors got to do with the point he is making.

Thats not true.
Why is it that i never felt that my muslim friends were being discriminated?

Come on, you seriously think I have not lived in India, lol.
Lol
Have you really lived in India? which part of India have you lived in and for how long?
I ask you this because you are a pessimist. When a Pessimist says 80% and an Optimist says 20%, then i can safely assume that the real value is closer to 50%.

okay then...Read this post.............
I am a muslim living in the Makkah of Hindus the Haridwar.
There is nothing like Hindu vs Muslim
... There mosques in Haridwar as well...

I did not understand what has kapoors got to do with the point he is making.
I meant, SRK has misunderstood the line that "Khans are successful in the industry".
Very often such things are said about the Kapoor Khandaan too.

Well may be you are good to your muslim friends therefore extrapolate it to most muslims, where as most of them do not belong to upper middle educated class. To know how they are treated you should listen to 'other' hindus, in offices, trains, buses, in private areas. I am giving you benefit of doubt and not calling lier, yet. :)

I have not only seen discrimination where I lived, also so most places I travelled in India, and I have travelled quite a bit.

Khan was annoyed by the repeated assertion that 'success of khans proves India is secular', he was responding to that by saying 'the fact that you have to make that claim repeatedly anytime something happens, proves that something is not right'. Kapoor being successful has nothing to do with the point being made there.

Which of these are correct (you can choose more than 1 option).
1. I think there is some discrimination is faced but not as bad as pakistan
2. I am treated like anybody else by the people who know me personally, however a stranger hindu might not be warm to me after knowing I am muslim
3. I have not faced much discrimination from people, but some discrimination when I got work with bank/govt office.
4. Some form of discrimination is expected, nobody is perfect but I am happy with the situation we are in.
5. I have not really faced any discrimination, nor do I know anybody who did, I have no idea what people are talking about.

How considerate!!!
I have not only seen discrimination where I lived, also so most places I travelled in India, and I have travelled quite a bit.
And so have I.
I have lived in 8 different states in India.

Some section of media loves to do that. But doesnt give you the liberty to pull blanket statements.

I have a feeling that this discussion is going to lead us nowhere because my experience has been different from yours.
