A Rajput may not possess much in this world but then again does he need anything other than his lineage, his ancestry and his honour? An honour ,which has been carefully concocted in the crucible of the desert for over a thousand years. Colonial British writers had a much more innocent fascination regarding the Rajputs(and also the Pashtuns), before they repurposed their fascination for Rajput ethnography into making the philosophy of the martial races...anyways there gas been Muslim Rajput dynasties too...prime being the Soomras of Sindh ....Rajput men were honour bound to go out ritualistically and make a heroic last stand outsude the fort (Saka) in face of inevitable defeat while Rajput women were honour bound to commit Jauhar simultaneously within the fortress...It seems here lies the genesis of Rajput identity ....A code of honour no lesser than the seppuku committing Samurais of the Great Yamato Race....The Jauhar Step well would be the heart of any Rajput fortress construction .....

It seems the Rajput was more worried that loss of honour would pollute the bloodline rather than the typical Anglo-Saxon preoccupation that miscegnation would pollute the bloodline ...The first Anglo-Saxon ethnographers encountering the Rajputs must have been stupifued at this much different self-conception of identity

How did Muslim Rajput react when the tide inevitably turned against their favour with the onslaught of lightly Islamicized Mongol dynasties like the Arghun?

Rajput is title, soomras are not really rajput in traditional sense and neither hindus so they never sent their women in pit of fire.

The ethnographers of this forum might take you up on that...Rajputs be they of Hindu or Muslim placed heavy importance on ancestry and lineages ...There are still Muslim Rajputs who can identify which pre-Muslim kula they belong to? Whether they are Suryavanshu,Agnivanshi or Chandravanshi

Many women would kill themselves in the face of such dishonour.
By the way are you Rajput?

Saka and Jauhar were committed by the towns of lower Indus basin when besieged by Alexander ...All those places are in modern day Pakistan
No I am not a Rajput... If you must know I am Ugra Kshatriya

Rajput are overrated.
If you are true muslim no one more brave and morally strong than muslim.

Some muslims are more equal than others....I am sorry but Indonesians are not as celebrated in the global Muslim lore as the 16 great Turkic dynasties (most of them being Muslims)

@Indus Pakistan

No

Islamization of the Rajputs of Punjab and neighboring areas was completed under Sultan Aurangzeb Alamgir. He famously withdrew his armies when the first horn was blown (to signal preparation for mass suicide.) When the Rajputs asked him why he did this, he stated that it would be preferable to lose a battle than to have them commit suicide. This is why, among Muslim Rajputs, Sultan Aurangzeb Alamgir is considered a visionary hero and a savior.

As Islam does not allow this kind of ritual suicide, Muslims abandoned it long ago. However, fighting to the death for shahadat (martyrdom,) even against insurmountable odds, is a facet of Islamic history and military culture.

Rajputs had been fighting and murdering each other for centuries. Most these rules of war applied to Rajputs between themselves, as they believed very strongly in the rule of 'might is right.' However, Rajputs themselves had this caste identity placed on them by Hindus, (similar to the Gujjars.) We are mostly Iranic nomads of Saka, Hepthalite, and previous Iranic migrant origin.

Just because you are not aware of the history of Indonesia, doesn't mean it isn't great. @Indos may be able to offer his input.

Why are you so obsessed with Muslims? Don't worry about us.

Does this mean Muslim Rajputs say have committed Saka and Jauhar prior to Aurangzeb? Rajput men just do a last fateful charge rather than jumping in the fire.....The last Hindu ruler to jump into the fire was the Shahi ruler who lost the Battle of Peshawar at 1001 AD to Ghaznavi

Interesting, looks like these ancient warriors from lower indus migrated to Rajasthan and started practice of Jauhar there. But Soomras were muslims so never practised sati. Lower indus is origin of all Rajasthani rajputs as these people in Rajasthan who started to identify as rajputs clearly migrated from west of them which is southren punjab/lower indus that border Rajasthan.

South Punjab and Sindh is likely origin of Jauhar in ancient times.

Allah don't give you that right to take your life even to prevent highest form of dishonor or rape as you put it.
No one and in no condition you suffer you can commit suicide. Please just for a minute think before you write.
