The Punjab government on Wednesday approved eight development schemes estimated to cost Rs11.82 billion across various sectors.
The schemes were approved in the 17th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party. Planning and Development (P&D) Board Chairman Muhammad Irfan Elahi chaired the meeting.
A spokesman for the P&D Department said Rs3.14 billion had been approved for capacity building projects for elementary school teachers’ training institutions in Punjab; Rs1.8 billion had been approved for the Punjab Literacy Movement Project; Rs1.03 billion had been allocated for the reconstruction of Sargodha District Headquarters Hospital.
The development projects approved include a feasibility study for the construction of a water treatment plant to treat surface water from BRB Canal, Lahore (PC-II). Rs10 million had been allocated for that project. Rs3.8 billion had been allocated for the construction of signal-free junctions at Azadi Chowk. Rs1.8 billion had been approved for the construction of an alternate route from New Azadi Chowk to Circular Road and Masti Gate, the spokesman said.
A sum of Rs6.15 million had been approved for feasibility study of biomass power generation in the Punjab (PC-II). Rs26.9 million has been approved for a feasibility study of a flyover at Railway Crossing, Defence Road, Lahore (on PPP Basis). Rs86.8 million has been allocated for the construction of the GT Road Expressway from Shahdara to Kala Shah Kaku (on PPP Basis) and Rs26.5 million for the construction of the Southern Bypass Lahore (on PPP Basis).
