Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will attend the 12th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing, Press TV reported on Saturday.

The 12th SCO summit will be held on June 6-7.

“Apart from participating in the summit, the Iranian president will hold talks with presidents of certain member and observer countries,” said Mohammad Reza Forqani, head of the presidential office’s international relations division

Ahmadinejad will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Speaker of the National People's Congress. Iran and China will sign a memorandum of understanding on the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The SCO is an intergovernmental international organization established on in June 2001 by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Observer states include India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan, while its dialogue partners include Belarus and Sri Lanka.

The links between these nations are paramount in the long term stability in our regions. Its great news to see Iran being welcomed into this group. The more the merrier - and of course it will create a stable and peaceful region.

I hope Iran will get full membership in the SCO as soon as possible !!!

And the SCO should also adopt similar treaty that NATO has : It states, in part, that "an armed attack against one or more [allies] shall be considered an attack against them all."

Its very difficult for SCO to do this now first they need to set the priorities their need to be insync approach on international issues and most of the Islamic countries are not happy with their approach on Syrian issue.

Clearly it hurts the feelings of the indians when something goes against uncle sam's wicked designs. Now, our Iranina friends who take india as their allies should notice this. This tells in which camp india is.

IF India was in the mix, then it would simply be an "internal issue". Sort of like two brothers pouncing on another brother and beating him with a random household object.

I don't agree. Its in SCO and Iran interest for them to have closer links. I think the Syrian issue is a completely separate issue and not to be mixed with the long term security and safety for our region.
China and Russia are not always "in sync" with international issues. They generally do what suites them and NOT what suites the rest of the world - and that's the right attitude to have.

I doubt India will ever be allowed to join as China will never let you.
Iran will eventually be allowed after the tensions are reduced and Pakistan will join too.
