The United States needs to eliminate safe havens for terrorists in Pakistan if it has to succeed in Afghanistan, the new commander of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces in the war-torn country told the US Congress on Tuesday. Lieutenant-General Austin Miller was nominated as the commander of Resolute Support Mission last month.

Safe havens in Pakistan make it “infinitely more difficult” for the US to secure its national interests, Miller told Senator Dan Sullivan of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “We have to squeeze out safe havens if we’re going to be successful here.”

Pakistan must be part of the solution in Afghanistan, not just diplomatically but also from a security perspective as well, he added. “We should have high expectations that they are part of the solution.”

Miller agreed with a senator who said Pakistan’s actions had been contradictory to “being part of the solution”.

“I see similar behaviour – contradictory – but as we go forward, as we work through the South Asia Strategy, not just from a military standpoint, from – but from a diplomatic standpoint, again, I go back to I believe we ought to have very, very high expectations of them,” the military commander said. Pakistan’s own stability and prosperity will benefit from peace in Afghanistan, he added.

Sen. Dan Sullivan raised the issue of Pakistan's role, he clearly bats for India, it's obvious for anyone who follows him that he's probably paid to do so. His opinions on Pakistan are therefore unremarkable.

• Recently Afg govt released Taliban fighters

• 44% of Afg land is in Talibans control.
- Taliban active in 70 percent of Afghanistan, BBC study finds (Reuters)

• 20% is contested territory -- even 200k Afg soldiers + around 20k Foreign forces cannot squeeze the Talibans.

• Talibans earn around $2 billion from opium exports annually - enough to continue their fight against foreign forces without any help from outside.
- Poppy Production: The Taliban's Cash Cow --

How the Taliban Gets Its Cash

• 1000 Corrupt army generals of Afg without a basic army training aren't going to win a war for your lazy-sorry arse..

• USA annually spend $8 billion to stop farmers from growing poppy but still no progress.

• American warplanes in Afghanistan are dropping bombs in numbers not seen since the height of the U.S. troop surge in 2010, after President Donald Trump announced a new strategy in August to ease attack curbs and widen the range of militant targets.

In September, for example, the U.S. Air Force dropped 751 bombs, an increase of nearly 50 percent from the August figure of 503, to reach its highest single-month total in seven years, military data showed (Reuters)

- No Progress -- still Talibans are killing afg soldiers, police men & carrying out deadliest bombings in Afg + they control 44% of afg territory -- but hey, let's blame Pakistan ---____---

You moron, why don't you help us in closing the border ?

If we are having terrorists here then why we are sealing our borders and why you are opposing it ?

They lost Vietnam due to Cambodia and Laos... now they are loosing Afghanistan due to Pakistan.... America just blames neighboring countries when they know they have lost.

. .
I am sure it was senate hearing and those opium traders (US generals) have to make excuses for their lame existence in Afghanistan so they can continue getting $12 billion a year without accountability. I wonder if any of the senator have balls to ask these generals if US ever won a war

.
There is nothing which Americans can do in Pakistan and which will help them in Afghanistan. Stupid ideas and stuoid rationals, no matter how loud are nonetheless stupid.

I hope and pray that for once this nation wakes up and do the right thing on 25th July. Let someone like IK come who will actually have a foreign policy unlike the corrupt parchi sharif we had for the past 5 years. We will see how US continues to throw accusations on Pakistan and at the same time give cover to People like Omar Khosani to be used against Pakistan.
This nation needs to understand that the world is much beyong their galli Mahala or us na galli ki sarak bana di, us na bajli ka transformer badal diya is not going to cut it. Pakistan needs an agressive foreign policy.
And i hope the generals dont chicken out like last time when Kyani got shit scared because IK wanted his armed forces to shoot down a drone if it violates our airspace. They will have to grow a pair as well. Instead of thinking how to develop DHA, they need to work on protecting the borders as well.

Dear Gen, if you want to safely complete your career, without getting fired, then cooperate. We will also cooperate. We have defeated terrorists here, we can do that in Afghanistan too. But, you need to be polite for that. Intimidate us, and no more.

But Allah knows better.

Its getting boring now. Have been hearing this for decades now. We have to do this , we should o that. Well do it if you can , otherwise keep your mouth shut.

US is preparing for the post election kiosk in Pakistan, which Imran Khan is going to bring upon us.

Bro i like IK but dont expect any drastic change ... Yes after decade we will have a foreign policy and will have a plan but damage done in past 40 years cannot be repair in a single term further more he will be more occupied by economic issues so dont expect tough stance ... Rather he will use a balance approach with priority to stabilize economic relations
