Hey guys, my name's Raja and my family has moved to the United States when I was 7 years old (4th grade). Though I haven't lived my life in India, the memories of my childhood and patriotism for my motherland still remains within me. Everyday as my parents have been reading news (about local issues, corruption, etc...) I've developed interest for learning more about India. Over the course of that, I've encountered PDF and my interests of India have been derailed..... to this Pakistan battering.

Now, as my grandfather got re-elected as a Member of Parliament in the past elections, it came up as a general discussion in my family and my dad told me he'd take me to meet with Jay Prakash Narayana (a local MLA of Andhra Pradesh) and from that, I just developed an interest in these ideas.

Since then, I wanted to meet with Dr.Singh and address to him as a common man, what the people of India need and what are the flaws within the government of India.

I'm going to India next summer and in the mean time, I'm in the process of coming up with a presentation that I'd like to present to Dr.Singh on current issues for us.

Currently I am addressing these issues:
- Reservations based on caste system (should be removed- and IF there are any reservations; it should be based on INCOME; not caste)
- Corruption of government officials (recommendations, bribes, etc...)
- Better education for the poor

I'm writing an in depth presentation so far on these topics and what we should do about them.. Hopefully my grandfather will be able to take me to present it to Dr.Singh.

In the mean while, I'll be warmly active on PDF. And a word from me to Indians here... Let's not care of what Pakistan has/does/wants to do. Foreign affairs aren't the priority when our internal issues are bugging us. As a person let's do our best for ourselves first. Then we should also think about our country. I'd definitely appreciate any ideas from people as this is not a small issue for our country.

I am really excited to meet him :victory: Hopefully he'll consider what I've been preparing.

I don't wish to be a politician or anything, but seeing the innocent public of India suffering like that is heart breaking. As the educated, we have to do something in order to make Indian societies better, and fair.

I was born and raised outside India, I've only been there 3 or 4 times but the motherland remains number one.

Realistically speaking I'm not sure if we can contribute anything directly, what we can do is promote India at home (states), pump money into the stock/real estate market, help other desi immigrants in the states (jobs, housing etc), we already have several Indian American organizations in the states that are trying to help out.

You cant change the caste System overnight. The same way you cant stop racism.

The only ways to break such systems is empowerment.

And the easiest way to empower people is secure income.
Look at women's rights.

You should stress on Job creation for the poorest in India.

Skill based subsidized learning courses so they can all have a profession that can earn them income.

Increase the relevance of Small and Mid sized business. That will open the opportunity for employment to so many.

Modernizing the police force. Critical to stop fraud and exploitation which is one of the major reasons many systems lag fail in the country

And Increasing the role of CBI in state affairs so that they can operative like the FBI. Targeting corruption and fraud.

That way the creation of tax incentives for Micro low interest loan groups in India. Can help stop the cycle of debt that many of the poor struggle with. The sheer number of small loans given out could lead to better profits as well

Encourage government to remove Unnecessary subsides, While giving jobs to the Rural masses ensuring re-election.

The use of E-governess should be further emphasized. As it bypasses so much corruption

Making use of the cell phone to make people aware is critical as it is a widely used Network technology. It can revolutionize the country.

GoI should set up hot lines that can help people. Making use of SMS as a News tool is also a possibility. If air tel can send me 4 texts a day with adds GoI can do something similar to share information and news.

Raising the awareness of People to a changing world and their rights i India is an Important issue that should be addressed.

Better education for the poor

IF people can have a Secure household with income to feed them people will send children to School.

but the most important think you should remember is that the Police force of India has to do more for people being exploited.
Reduce people trafficking.

In a whole they need to raise confidence in the GoI. If they see the police force as Incompetent the most visible symbol of the government in Daily life. Have faith in the government.
We are talking about the common man who has no Internet or TV

they need to see the police as a reliable and trust worthy Unit.
And India needs a good police force right now, more that ever
We want to be a super power, well we need super cops to do it.

The public forum should become more of a mainstay in Indian politics as it allows for more Indians to become Involved.

Out of which you should Thank Shahsi throor for taking the Initiative
And going on twitter, Its get's people involved in politics as active members more than just Passive Participates.

i think ill stop here for now.
Too much to write about.
Might write more if people like what i have to say

A strong push for police reforms and accountability watchdog agencies for state police forces. If there is one thing that can go a long way in improving the life of the poor is stopping exploitation of the poor and disenfranchised from being extorted by corrupt police offcials. Fake encounters, dealing with gangsters, know-towing to politicians, and even being plain old criminals themselves results in a huge loss of confidence to an important institution. The recent case of Ruchika is a case in point.

Agreed the problem is India is that almost every program intiated to help people is Exploited by people.

Better police ensure more confidence IN GoI and better implementation

Hi i would suggest some from my side am not some great scholar or something but this is what i would do if given a chance to "Improve my nation"

first
"encourage people to dream big and to act with integrity to make India a developed nation by year 2020"

coz ppl would work more  with a positive attitude and patriotism remember those days when APJ was president. How each and every one would feel so motivated seeing him or reading his speech.

Second
make higher education free or at least put a bar on maximum fee & no donations or management quota

this step would work only if a large no of higher education institutes are constructed by the government. So we need more govt coll for higher education.

third
Farmers interests should be guarded more seriously free vocational training, graduation & Post graduation courses must be started with stipends to encourage the rural youth to join

Advantage:
1.this will reduce the rural urban divide
2. the stipend will attract the youth not only will it encourage literacy but it will help increase agricultural produce.
3.scientific methods will be introduced
4.The youth can become self employed

fourth
"Create what i call as science centers in schools in every village with some basic lab equipments & books"

here children get attracted and amazed how science unravels the behavior of mother nature. Acting as encouragement in there careers to study more

fifth
"Compulsory military training"

Not because we are facing war with Pakistan or China :cheesy:

With introduction of military training we would become more active develop hobbies become competent, encourage sports and appreciate a lot of other things & lessen the divide

sixth
Health care must be free or at least for those below poverty line

seventh
Recognition of of NGO's

so that a large amount of welfare money can be pumped to the right NGO to avoid corruption in the government channels.

eighth
"A large amount of money should be provided for R&D and laboratories constructed for students pursuing there Phd"

A good amount of money should be given as stipend for students

Can any one tell me how can we put values in our education ?

Solution for this

The LokAyukta an anti-government corruption organization in the Indian state of Karnataka. Highest institution in state to investigate the allegation of corruption at higher places in Govt in states in India (except Chief Minister).

The LokAyukta helps people bring corruption to the fore mainly amongst the politicians and officers in the government service.. It is to be noted that the LokAyukta concucts raids.

But surprisingly, it does not have binding powers to punish anyone.. Owing to this, many acts of the LokAyukta have born not enough fruit since the raided officers manage to free themselves from the clutches of the Indian Law.

Give them more teeth & create them in all states

1. We ought to be taught to respect human lives more. Isn't the recent example of the tamilnadu sub-inspector's public death in front of ministers and media. One can well imagine what will be the fate of an ordinary citizen. Even people dying from hot/ cold weather is just a number in news paper for most of the Indians. No one has learned to respect and value the presious human life.

2. Indians also lack in basic honesty. If a street vendor leaves his newspaper stall in the hand of his 2 Rs per newspaper collection box in India, 99% chance is that only 10% people will pay for the newspaper. Something to think about and I believes this lack of basic honesty is ultimately leading to high level of corruption amongst all and sundry.

3. Need to include chapters/ subject for elaborating the the cause of evolution of cast system and and their evils in the present times.

4. Ditto for religeous tollerance. Same should be included in the madrasa educations too. There are numbers of good madrasa running in west-begal and assam which produces good students.

5. English should be introduced from class-1 in the public schools as well.

6. One mandatory foreign language in under graduation cource.

7. Teacher recruitment system for public schools is very shoddy, and corrupted. Needs improvement.

8. I agree to at least one year's compulsory military training. If not anything else, it teaches one to be disiplined and value the importance of being fit. A fit nation is way better. Also it enhances patriotism and hopefully promote more honesty.

More letter...

Thanks guys for your input. Most of what's been addressed here; the government knows to do.

Dr.Kalam's Vision 2020. Everyone knows. The government just needs to act on it; that'd what i'd like to focus. For example on the reservations or vision 2020. That requires some work and $$$$ that these politicians don't want to give. And they're afraid they'd loose their votes so they won't do anything conflicting that will effect their popularity  Because BC's are majorities they always want to keep them entertained and keep their power. But they don't realize how they're harming their country. All these bast$$$$ care is MONEY and their post.

If we don't act, then as these Pakistanis say.
'Wet Dreams' are what they'll be called for the rest of our lives.
I'm trying to use their remarks as motivation ;)

I know just me doing this won't revolutionize India or anything :D but I hope for my satisfaction and to help my country, I'll try my best.

Thanks all you again =)
How about returning to India and working here?......Just a thought.:smitten:

If i can get a job at Wipro

Arey compulsory Military service is bad political move no one in Politics has even the guts to make it.

Its a waste of Indian's already small legislative time.

Besides How many people in India do you think want Compulsory service.

I have a friend in South Korea, They have compulsory military service there. But they also offer Public service jobs for those opposed to the military. He has taken the Public service option, and he told me ho did not want to do military at all.

Now the SK system i can see some sense in.

But i guarantee you not in 50 years will any politician in India be bothered with such an opposed law.

I am no Abdul Kalam, but these are points that comes to my mind off and on:

1. Make serious attempt to put a subject in social service where you can involve the students in teaching general public about cleanliness, traffic safety, public etiquette etc. etc. This will also promote a sense of responsibility in the young minds.

2. Include a subject of vocational training in class 8 & 9.

3. Curriculum to be re-designed to put more emphasis on innovation and curiosity rather then RATTA. Take help of some IIM course designer to re-design the curriculum from class 1 itself.

4. Try to remove useless chapters/ subject to bring in new subjects.

5. The extra-curricular activities to be taken more seriously. Specially in the village public schools, it is limited by making a earthen egg, which is normally made by the parents instead of the students. This also applies to the chick scholls, who gives such tough projects to the students that ultimately its the parents who end up doing the projects. This should be a part of the re-designing the cource which is to aim at promoting innovation and team work rather then making an environment of competition of whos project looks more cool.

My few cents on other fronts (other then education) will follow soon. lol.
