The General Elections in Pakistan took place on July 25, 2018, and Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf won 119 seats out of 269 to emerge victorious. The former cricketer was also crowned as the Prime Minister of the country. Meanwhile, the nation may witness another change as Wasim Akram, another former all-rounder, is most likely to become the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Najam Sethi is the current chairman of the cricket board. In 2013 and 2014, he intermittently served as the PCB chairman. Thereafter, he served as PCB’s executive committee while Shahryar Khan was elected as the chairman in 2014. Last year, Sethi became PCB’s 30th chairman. Meanwhile, one of Akram’s family members mentioned that Akram has a great chance of being given the position.

“Yes, Wasim is front runner for becoming next PCB chairperson. He’s been associated with IK since both legends used to play cricket for Pakistan and now both ready to take country on new heights,” a family member was quoted as saying by Sports Mirchi.


Cricket in Pakistan is in the middle of a turbulent phase over the past one decade. Back in 2009, the Sri Lankan-bus attack in Lahore marred the reputation of their cricket after which international cricket was halted in the country. However, Zimbabwe toured Pakistan back in 2015 following which cricket is slowly, but steadily coming back to the nation, to the delight of the fans and their cricketing fraternity.

In the meantime, a source mentioned that Pakistan cricket is in dire requisite of an administrator who can change the face of their cricket. Moreover, it also talked about improving cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. “Pakistan cricket needs a person like Wasim who can bring international cricket back to the nation at regular time. New chapter is set to be introduced to Indo-Pak relations in terms of cricket as well,” the source mentioned.

Wasim Akram was a great cricketer, and has continued to be associated with cricket for a while now. Hes also quite mature. Seems like a good choice to me.

meritism, I don't this is nepotism at all. One way or another, Imran Khan will be friends with most if not all of the retired Pakistani cricket players so we can't just label it as nepotism just because he is friends with people of his own sports field. It would've been nepotism if he had made PCB chairman someone who IK was friends with but he had nothing to do with cricket. But Wasim Akram is a legendary cricket player. najam sethi is a no body, doesn't even look like an athlete.

In qayoom report they recommended that he should not get any leading position in pcb.

Many people might not agree but Najam Sethi did a good job as PCB Chairman, he brought cricket back to Pakistan. He also made PSL a big success. PSL is a world wide brand now. He brought complete transparency in team selection and promoted zero interference policy in team management issues.

Wasim Akram becoming the PCB chairman indeed is a great news! A very good news!

The PMLn, as well as the PPP, MMA etc., are a deadly mafia and there is no other way to describe them. It must be rooted out and eliminated. All of its leadership from top to bottom needs to be investigated and jailed/hanged for their crimes, if proven. The most important thing is that all of their properties need to be confiscated.

The PMLn has proved one thing and that is that it is a vehemently anti-state entity. Any room given to it would be worse than treason.

The one thing Pakistani government needs to do is to eliminate the so called classes within jails. That is the height of hypocrisy and an open rebellion against God. This whole VIP culture is a curse. It needs to be eliminated.

I call on the new government of Pakistan to get serious about punishing criminals. Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, both convicted criminals, are enjoying a holiday vacation living in five star hotel like surrounding. This needs to end now!

Merit will be when PCB will develop itself as a functional and self-governing body. Until this happen, a personal appointment will be required.

Well, for utter dismay of many..PCB is not the biggest issue for Pakistan right now. After forming the govt, balance of payment and economy take precedence over all other things. So IK can appoint anyone who he feels is suitable for the job without wasting much time in the process. Definitely we need to get rid of Najam Shitty. Later on we can evolve a proper system not only for PCB but for all sports boards.
