So I recently came across a list of personnel that India claims were killed in the 27/02 Mi17 crash. They were (Source):

- Wg Cdr Sidharth
- co-pilot Sqn Ldr Ninad Mandavgane
- Sgt Vikrant Sehrawat
- Cpl Pankaj Kumar
- Cpl Deepak Pandey
- Cpl Vishal Kumar Pandey

First it bugged me a little that two senior officers were both flying (pilot and co-pilot) the Mi17. So I decided to look up all the names.

I noticed that some of the Indian news sites were missing one of the names - like here. The missing name was Pankaj Kumar.

Searching for Pankaj Kumar, I came across this Hindi news site which has a report dated 27/02/19 @ 6.09PM stating (Google translate):

On Wednesday, India's MiG-21 aircraft crashed between India and Pakistan. In the incident Wing Commander Pankaj Nahbar was martyred. As soon as the information of this incident reached his family, the quorum raged and everyone's eyes became moist. Pankaj Nohbar was a resident of Balaji Puram in the highway area of Mathura. Shaheed Pankaj Noakhar was appointed in 2012 in the Air Force One wing. MiG-21 had crashed in Badgam district. The official confirmation of the crash of the aircraft was given by Foreign Ministry spokesman Raviish Kumar to the media. During this he did. Told that the Pakistani Air Force had tried to enter the Indian airspace, which was shot down. a pilot is missing since the attack. For whom Pakistan has claimed that the pilot named Anandanand is in his custody. At present, the Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed that the missing pilots are congratulations. It is reported that there were six jawans in this Miraj aircraft. (To read every minor news of the UP Police, also follow us on FaceTweet Twitter)

No.1 Squadron operate the Mirage 2000, and are the ones that supposedly did the 26/02/19 SirJiKal strikes.

But the last bit had me thinking - have these guys got it confused? Or is IAF falsely claiming that Pankaj Kumar died in a helicopter accident? Because why would there be three pilots on that Mi17 - that's if Pankaj was a pilot.

So more searches and I find these:

Video title claiming Pankaj was a pilot:

India Today: People console death of IAF pilot Pankaj Kumar who died in chopper crash But then within the article they refer to him as a soldier.

Need to do more digging, and will do tomorrow on all the names. Not entirely sure if I'm onto anything yet.

Edit: Missed this out:

From ANI! Look what it says on the video at the start and then again:

"Says Slain IAF Pilot's Father"
"Slain Pilot Pankaj Kumar's Father"

Indian Media identifies him as a "Pilot" but the IAF identifies him as a "corporal".

And then even the father does gol mol from 15s.

Good detective work, I think the ISPR would be put out a bit, because Mr Ghafoor would want to be telling this info in a future press conference.

Take this with the modi comment that "if only we had the rafael, things could have been different" and a picture is being built up.
@Rafi what ur titbit about second indain jet? I mean is it Su or mirage 2000? Plus what ur take our future jet procurement any F16s new one we drop bone to Trump for new jets so they keep mouth completely shut. along with China no need to buy Russian jets they r useless.

As I have always said Indian intelligence is so fucking stupid. On one hand they claim the chopper came down due to technical fault on the other hand they instruct one of the fallen's father to demand revenge his son's death from Pakistan, why?

by the way thanks for confirming chopper was also brought down by PAF.

Maybe the BVR caused a little confusion , maybe it locked on to the wrong target and brought down a heli instead.

IAF has multiple Pankaj Kumars, as per BR. Most of them are in the administrative and engineering branches but these three are fighter pilots. However, in the video the father is stating his son joined the IAF 7 years ago, so in 2012 which is later than the ones below.

I would also say a rank of Wng Cmdr is probably not achievable in that short of a time span. So most likely the news is wrong and the poor chap might not have been a pilot at all and the media got confused him with Abhinandan

Someone needs to properly translate this article for whatever its worth. The pilot's name is misspelt 3 times and it says that the "Miraj" has a crew of six

Here it is using google translate.

https://www.policenewsup.com/in-the-mig-21-aircraft-crashed-wc-pankaj-nahbar-was-martyred

bhaarat aur paakistaan ke beech chal rahee tanaatanee ke beech budhavaar ko bhaarat ka mig 21 vimaan kraish ho gaya is haadase mein ving kamaandar pankaj nohabaar shaheed ho gae. is ghatana kee soochana jaise hee unake parivaar mein pahunchee to koharaam mach gaya aur har kisee kee aankhen nam ho gaeen.
pankaj nohabaar mathura ke haeeve kshetr baalaajee puram ke rahane vaale the. shaheed pankaj nobahaar ne 2012 mein eyaraphors van ving mein niyukt hue the. mig-21 badagaam jile mein kraish hua tha. vimaan kraish hone kee aadhikaarik pushti videsh mantraalay ke pravakta raveesh kumaar ne meediya ko dee. is dauraan unhonne bataaya ki, paakistaanee eyaraphors ne bhaarateey vaayu seema mein ghusane kee koshish kee thee jise maar giraaya gaya.

saibar aparaadh par lagaam lagaane ke lie in pulikarmiyon ko dee jaegee trening

vaheen is hamale ke baad se ek paayalat laapata hain. jisako lekar paakistaan ne daava kiya hai ki abhinandan naam ka paayalat unakee hiraasat mein hai. philahaal is baare mein videsh mantraalay ne pushti nahin kee hai ki, laapata hue paayalat abhinandan hee hain. bataaya gaya hai ki is miraaj vimaan mein 6 javaan savaar.

This is confirming a crash of Mig 21 on the same day in Badgam. It seems the Indian jets were dying like flies on that day in Badgam, same time when PAF was conducting operations.
Coincidences!! Off course not.
So the score so far, according to Indian Press reports 2 Mig 21 were sent to intercept, both were downed by PAF. 100% record against Migs.

In last video 00:58 the guy answer to some one's question about rank, 'Yeh copal thay, Airforce ki eik rank hoti hai copal.'
So if he is telling the truth then definitely Pankaj Kumar was not a pilot.
On the other hand his demand to revenge Pakistan for a crashed helicopter of technical fault is an important point to consider that the helicopter was also shot down by PAF.
