Recent contacts between Pakistan and Bangladesh leaders have provided a rare glimpse of a possible, if not yet probable, detente after years of strained ties between the two countries, according to observers.

Since the independence of Bangladesh [then East Pakistan] from Pakistan in December 1971 following a nine-month bloody war, the relationship between the two South Asian Muslim states have passed critical courses with ups and downs.

Pakistan and Bangladesh: tense relations since 1971

In recent years, already icy relations between the two were fueled by the conviction of several Jamaat-e-Islami, and main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders by a controversial local tribunal — called the International Crimes Tribunal — and subsequent executions on accusations of committing atrocities during the 1971 War of Independence.

Bilateral ties, however, have seemingly improved as Dhaka follows its constitutional “friendship to all and malice to none” diplomacy with Islamabad in recent weeks.

“For the greater interest of our country we will keep relations with all and our constitutional foreign policy is- friendship to all and malice to none,” Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told Anadolu Agency.

Bangladesh deserves good friends and support against bulley india.

Bangladesh is progressing much faster than Pakistan or any other south asian country. We would like to see a very strong bangladesh that has no threat from india or burma.

We pakistaniz would like to see a strong bangladesh.

Bangladesh is a country of wise people, they realise India does not have a viable future. The future of BD lies in with strengthening ties with China and the Muslim world. Many dividends await BD with this policy including, Financial gains, Military gains and most probably Territorial gains.

The Muslims in BD hate India 10X more than the Paks for they're 10X more in the receiving end....

*A historical note: after the elimination of the Mujib regime, BD Army's chief, an ex Mukti Bahini and very close to India, conducted a counter coup to topple the Muslim government. He couldn't last even 3 days. He and his cohorts were killed in a brutal manner. And, nobody even bothered to bury their dead bodies as they were rotting....
