By Our CorrespondentPublished: December 16, 2012
KARACHI:
Retired Pakistani fighter pilot Air commodore Muhammad Mahmood Alam has been admitted to the Pakistan Naval Station Shifa, a naval hospital.
He is under treatment and I hope he will get well soon, said Group Captain Tariq Mahmood, spokesperson for the Pakistan Air Force, in a telephone interview from Islamabad. The chief of air staff also visited Mr Alam at the hospital.
Alam was a North American F-86 Sabre Flying ace and one-star general, who served with the Pakistan Air Force. He was awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat (The star of courage).
He received a Pakistani military decoration for his actions during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, during which he downed five Indian aircraft in less than a minute, the first four within 30 seconds, establishing a world record.
