Dutch Parliament Member Tunahan Kuzu (L) refuses to shake hands with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to the States General at the Binnenhof as part of Netanyahu's visit to the Netherlands at the Binnenhof, in the Hague, on September 7, 2016. PHOTO: AFP

A Dutch politician refused to shake the outstretched hand of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to the Netherlands.

A video clip shows the awkward moment when the Muslim Dutch MP, Tunahan Kuzu snubs the Israeli leader as he approaches him after greeting other politicians lined to welcome him. In response, Netanyahu is then seen shrugging and moving away.

Turkish-born Kuzu is a vocal supporter of Palestinian rights. He can be seen wearing a badge bearing the Palestinian flag during his encounter with the Israeli PM. Since the incident, he shared a justification for his actions on Facebook. “While the streets of Gaza were reddened by blood that splashed out of the veins of children in the summer of 2014, the red carpet is rolled here,” Kuzu wrote. “That deserves no handshake, but a reference to #FreePalestine,” he added.

Embarrassed by the snub, the Israeli PR machine cut out the handshake refusal from the video shared on YouTube by the PM’s office. But that did not stop the original video from going viral. While some accused the Dutch MP of antisemitism, others took to Twitter to praise him. “What a boss”, one user wrote, while another called handshake refusal a “sign of strength and decency”.

After the video went viral, Netanyahu shared a video on his Twitter account ostensibly in reference to Kuzu. “Today we saw another clear example of those who want peace and those who don’t,” he said. “Those who twist their noses, let their noses stay twisted,” Netanyahu concluded quoting former Israeli PM, Menachem Begin.

only logical.. the guy is probably a Turkish immigrant descendant (grandparents from Turkey), and he and i agree it's good to support moderate muslims.. so his not shaking hands with the Israeli PM is a no-brainer (is easy to understand)..

.
only logical
Sorry, but there is nothing logical about that, it's rude and not good behaviour, specially for one representing their nation, this guy obviously puts some twisted form of Islam and ummah etc above your country. We saw some of this shameful discriminatory behaviour at the olympics too, and then people wonder why muslims have problems in the EU. :disagree:

In Saheeh al-Bukhaari it is narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When the Jews greet you, they say, ‘as-saam ‘alaykum (death be upon you),’ so say, ‘And also upon you.’” If he holds his hand out to you, then reach out and shake his hand, otherwise do not initiate it.” End quote.

[1] Like there are no theological discussions permitted on muslim forums[8] (forums.marokko.nl and defence.pk i know that for sure because i ran into those limitations), even the most moderate muslims will in public not shake hands with leaders (Israeli leaders in this case) who according to the vast majority of muslims occupy muslim land.. It's a fact that the Israelis are taking more and more Palestinian land, that they bulldoze homes to make room for new Israeli homes, that Israelis demolish (and then take over) Palestinian orchards (where you grow food and fruits)..

[1.1] You won't hear me crying over the loss of people who insult the foundations of any religion, like the Quran brought to you by the Prophet Mohammed. I do not want to promote murder, but the big picture of people like Theo van Gogh (killed by a muslim around 2003) and the attack on Charlie Hebdo offices and staff, does prevent large-scale inter-ethnic violence (lotsa whites trying to murder innocent muslims, and vice-versa).

[2] From my very comfortable and peaceful Netherlands, i observe that muslim leaders do not want to grant Palestinians land of their own in other Arab countries that border Palestine / Israel.

[3] Palestinians, up to a so far tiny bit of moral highground reasoning, are right to advocate the boycot of Israeli products (i personally do not join in on this boycot because of what i said in paragraph [2] above here).

[4] Muslims are right to support each other by standing their moral ground and one of the effects of that is, a Western country's Muslim politician, not shaking hands with Israeli leaders. Besides, over here that's a choice left to each individual, that Dutch politician who didnt want to shake the Israeli leader's hand is showing that he has free will. And to us Dutch, well, to all semi-intelligent to truely-intelligent Dutch people, this is perfectly acceptable public behavior of one of our politicians.

[5] in my humble opinion, Muslims should not use the Palestinian people as cannonfodder[6] (martyred in hopeless endless rounds of violence towards Israel each 5 to 10 years, which i admit the Israelis provoke about every 5 year in the past 20 years that i have studied that subject in massmedia and in discussions with both Israelis and Westerners).

[6] (they would be nothing more than cannonfodder for thousands of years since the Israelis with their NATO backing will never give up their military superiority over Palestinians or any other Muslim leadership / leaderships-coalition).

[7] That boycot of Israeli products that muslims promote peacefully, will (i believe) also not work to improve Muslims' living-conditions anywhere.. Muslims, Palestinians, you need to look closely at the suggestion in paragraph [2] of this post in this thread..

[8] (which they *copied* from israelmilitary.net and christianforums.com, which is very very similar to moderator behavior on online forums where Republicans or Democrats from the USA discuss their viewpoints)

Would it also have been rude to not shake Hitler's hands?

I wonder how the members of this forum would react if a Western leader refuses publicly to shake hands of a leader from the Islamic world - say Saudi Arabia or Sudan, in protest against the bombing in Yemen, or the genocide in Darfur? Pretty sure there will be howls of 'Islamophobia'. Outrage seems pretty much a one-way street for the ummah.

.
I if a Western leader refuses publicly to shake hands of a leader from the Islamic world

I dont see that happening anytime soon..
That Israeli leader was invited by the majority-white-government of my country, and encountered 1 muslim moderate politician who didnt wanna shake hands.. What you're talking about is a much larger league called geo-politics.
Handshaking happens at that level to get aid money into the poorer country (often a muslim country) in exchange for cooperation from that leader to ensure no terror training camps etc are allowed to flourish in that muslim country.
See Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, and to a lesser degree Libya..
