Czech Republic

The Government of the Czech Republic has officially recognised the Vietnamese community living in the country as an ethnic minority group, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Czech.

The recognition came following the Czech Government’s decision to expand its Council of Ethnic Minorities, which approved the nomination of two members representing Vietnam and Belarus .

Under the decision, Pham Huu Uyen from the Van Lang Citizens’ Association represents Vietnamese people in the council.

According to Tran Viet Hung, Vice President of the Vietnamese Association in Czech Republic , this is a good news for the 65,000-strong Vietnamese community living in the country as they will receive assistance from the Czech Government to further develop their native tradition, culture and language.

In some localities with high numbers of Vietnamese residents, Vietnamese children may be taught in their mother tongue, he said.

Vietnamese people will have the right to use Vietnamese in public places as well as at courts, he said, adding that they are permitted to set up radio and television programmes in Vietnamese.-VNA

Congragulations for making yourself an obvious target of far right nationalists and xenophobes. It will only give them more ammunition and propaganda especially if they go forward with this.

Nice move from the Czech government. Thank you!

I have not seen any racist actions with Vietnamese in Czech Republic(Cộng Hòa Séc) and CSSR(Tiệp Khắc) in the past. Don't think anyone are fascist.

Seems like Vietnamese are doing pretty well in EU.
There is not only good side, some dark shadows cast on the successful story. But all in all, we are not too bad in Europe.

The Vietnamese community in Germany is widely considered the country's most successful immigrant population. But it pays a high price for that reputation. More than half of the Vietnamese children in Germany attend gymnasium, a secondary school that emphasizes academic learning. That is a higher rate than among German pupils. Vietnamese families place great value on their children's education. The high expectations put particular pressure on boys, who have far more opportunities in Germany than their parents did back in Vietnam.

Well, any Czech government is obliged to protect their citizen. Now the Czech republic considers the Viets as equal as other ethnics such as Slovaks and Romanies.

You're correct; however, some fools do not understand that:omghaha:

This is why the Czech is way ahead of the Russian. In Russia, Vietnamese face constant physical attacks and murders from the Russian but the Russian government does not bother to protect the Vietnamese one bit. Remember that Viet guy who got stabbed 47 times by the Russian and the Russian court found the accomplices/murderers innocent?

where are you actually, globetrotter?

I am in Australia doing my Master in International Business, feel like the movie and the book "Never ending story".........

Most of richest people in Vietnam now belong to whom studied in former Socialist countries:

Madam Mai Thanh with REE from Germany.
Mr. Quang A with VPBank from Hungary.
Mr. Do Duc Kien :help: with ACBank from Hungary.
Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong (forbes listed to first Billionaire of Vietnam) with VIC from Russia.
... and more.

I think they made money in Europa and brought home. :undecided:
